Do you have any idea how many unwanted dogs and cats are euthanized every year?

Now do the number of breeders that euthanize unwanted pets.

The more you talk the dumber you sound.

I don't think Louisiana does. When we moved out of state I had to register my dog. Never did that in LA.

I would be more impressed if the OP actually took action on his beliefs. In the very least, reach out to some animal rescue groups who have all worked on topics like this.

lets make it mandatory to not do drugs too, and lets ban guns in chicago while we are at it.

YOu do realize there's people out there that don't follow the law right? You gonna create some huge government agency to go around inspecting dogs at everyone's house?

No. Not at all. I am not interested in paying more taxes to occasionally breed my lab. I don't do it that often, but every once in a while I have a damn good field trial bitch I want puppies out of.

No way in hell I am going to let the government tell me if I can or can't breed a dog.

Too many strays? Put them down. Simple solution.

You don't shut the system down so that only licensed breeders can breed pets.
System? What system? The system for unwanted mutts that will be euthanized?

Especially when licensed breeders are far from superior and often are puppy mills at best. Holy unnecessary overreach.
I’m not defending puppy mills or breeders. Maybe the money saved on pet shelters could go towards better monitoring and enforcement on puppy mills.

You have a better idea?

Sure you are. You're literally handing them a golden ticket to continue poor practices and over breeding by making breeding exclusive to them.

Sure. We do a pretty good job of it here.

- Pet licensure helps reduce irresponsible breeding and tracks the population.

- Tag and release for cat colonies. As someone said earlier, fully eliminating feral cats will up the rodent population. Here, we take them in, vaccinate them, tag them, and release them back into their communities. But of course that all costs money.

- Help provide funding for your local animal services so they can spay and neuter strays they take in.

- Help provide more funding for better pet adoption services in your area.

And so on.

WTF are you talking about you moron?

What kind of breeder would euthanize their own product? So, outlaw dog breeders and only allow mutts to reproduce? Are you retarded?

Most municipalities already require vaccinations for pets, so why not spay and neuter also?

Oh good, more unenforceable legislation and regulations in everyone’s life. No one is gonna enforce this shite.
Does anyone come knock on you door to check for vaccination records on your pets? Is animal control spot checking pets to see if they have their vaccines? This is the kind of feel good measure stupid people come up with cause they think “we need to do something!” Even if it’s pointless and ineffective, they just have to do “something”.

Irresponsible pet owners are just that. You’re not going to get them to comply with this sort of thing for the same reason criminals don’t get a permit to legally carry a gun.

Shitty breeders routinely over-breed their animals to the point of having genetic issues and will euthanize those that don't "perfectly match" what they want to sell. It happens all of the time.

Nope. Same government agencies that enforce pet vaccinations.

If your dog is picked up by animal control and it’s not vaccinated, what do they do with it? Same thing with sterilization. If you want it back, pay for the vaccinations and sterilization.

It’s quite obvious that many dog owners are irresponsible pieces of shite and allow their dogs to get pregnant, or roam the streets getting others pregnant.

You are literally retarded.

When the puppies go un adopted at a breeder, and they grow past the point where anyone wants them, they get euthanized. Its common sense and common knowledge.

You think pet smart just hangs on to all the dogs they can't sell until they die of old age?

Try using your noggin a little bit here.

petco supplier gassing pets

But but, why would anyone kill their own product?

fricking moron

So, you’re for pet licensure, but against mandatory sterilization? What’s the fricking difference?

All of the other stuff is fine. I’m just sick of idiots letting their mutts reproduce, then we have to kill them.

So how much does a pet license cost?

Do they come and take your dog if you don’t renew it?

Of all the things that could concern government, the pet population isn't one high on the list.

This is an area best suited for private citizens to take steps to facilitate the animals being sterilized and adopted.

And when does animal control pick up animals, before, or after they maul a kid?

No one is enforcing pet vaccinations right now.
