I strongly suggest the persons sent attempt to enforce this bring tourniquets.
Dumbass.

This is kind of a spin-off thread from one I started earlier about the insane amount of pitbulls and pit mixes in shelters.
It’s quite obvious that many dog owners are irresponsible pieces of shite and allow their dogs to get pregnant, or roam the streets getting others pregnant.
Most municipalities already require vaccinations for pets, so why not spay and neuter also? Only licensed breeders would be able to keep dogs and cats that are not sterilized.
Would you be in favor of this legislation? I know I would.
And by the way, I’m not a licensed breeder.
frick no. What the frick is wrong with you millennials. Mind your own gotdamn business, or get your balls cut off and fed to the pound. How about that for legislation.

So, I’ll put you down as a lover of overflowing shelters and euthanasia of unwanted pets.
And we can mark you down as a lover of inbreeding, over-breeding, and abusive environments. But with the added bonus of government approval.

A lot of places charge a higher fee for the license if the pet isn't fixed.

Just because your solution is moronic doesn't mean people in this thread don't agree that there is a problem.

I don’t know that more govt is the right answer but there is a huge problem that needs to be addressed

Great, something else the government can suck at.

Then provide incentive for owners to fix their pets.
You don't shut the system down so that only licensed breeders can breed pets. Especially when licensed breeders are far from superior and often are puppy mills at best. Holy unnecessary overreach.

Municipalities and cities all over the country require it. Here in Louisville they'll cite you if you don't have a license if they get called out over a complaint and/or pick up a loose dog/cat:
quote:
Louisville pets owners must license all dogs, cats and ferrets with LMAS. Pet licensing is a requirement of the Louisville Animal Ordinance. You can purchase a renewable pet license in one-year or three-year increments. You will need proof your pet's Rabies vaccination is up-to-date, to obtain a pet license.

You aren’t going to convince stupid people to be responsible pet owners, but you can enforce laws that make it harder for them to be irresponsible. I see this as no different from pet vaccination laws. It’s a vaccine against unwanted pregnancies.

Feral cats are necessary for rodent population control. A catch, fix, and release program could be instituted. Probably just for males though as spaying is more invasive and would require weeks of recovery.

More laws won't change the behavior of the ones who need modification.
You can't legislate anyone into moral/intelligent behavior.
