This is kind of a spin-off thread from one I started earlier about the insane amount of pitbulls and pit mixes in shelters.

It’s quite obvious that many dog owners are irresponsible pieces of shite and allow their dogs to get pregnant, or roam the streets getting others pregnant.

Most municipalities already require vaccinations for pets, so why not spay and neuter also? Only licensed breeders would be able to keep dogs and cats that are not sterilized.

Would you be in favor of this legislation? I know I would.

And by the way, I’m not a licensed breeder.

a lot of rescues will not adopt out a dog if it hasn't been fixed.

I agree with you that there is a problem, but the fix isn't breeders. Many of them are part of the problem.

What is a licensed pet dealer? A false barrier of entry into pet breeding? You only want large chains breeding pets?

Puppy mills are awesome!

I strongly suggest the persons sent attempt to enforce this bring tourniquets.

Yeah, I’m all for that, but that’s kinda addressing the problem on the back end.

This takes on the problem at the source.

Hell no. I want responsible people breeding dogs that people want, not mixed breed mutts overflowing from shelters.

Licensed breeders can be pieces of shite as well. This isn't exclusive to non-licensed pet owners.

No, it doesn't.

Is okay, many things sound like a good idea until you say it out loud, or write it down in this case.

Not really. It just adds government regulations unnecessarily and as someone else pointed out, gives more clout to puppy mills. It doesn't actually fix any problems, it just provides sanctioning for a different problem.

A lot of places charge a higher fee for the license if the pet isn't fixed.

So, I’ll put you down as a lover of overflowing shelters and euthanasia of unwanted pets.

Are you going to head up the work of presenting this to a lobbyist or someone who will bring it to legislation? Or just going to start a thread on a football board about it?

It's a new year, get to it and change the world.
