Trust me. Listen to some of that gear with music and you'll never wonder again.

I guess if I wanted to blast Led Zeppelin I while drinking alone in my basement I could see the need.

The opening organ chord of “your time is gonna come” would ring like the church bells of Ulm Cathedral through the valley of the Danube.

But for real, I’d almost rather have a 2017 Ford Explorer Platinum for less than a 30k sound system would cost.

800 or 802?

802

No way in hell thats only $50k. Those two front mains are halfway there. That McIntosh stuff would shove it way over.

I already had 5 of the speakers (fronts, center, and sides) and three of the Mac pieces (MC452, MC352, and C2500 tube pre). I had some other McIntosh amps and a Meridian processor that I sold before starting the project. I wanted all McIntosh in the wall for sound (and aesthetics) and they had to be all LED back-lit in order to have the same shade of blue.

I added the 804’s for rears, 4 in ceiling B&W’s for Atmos, Mac MX122 processor, MC207 for rest of speakers, MCD301 CD player, and Oppo 103 UHD player.

That equipment plus the Sony-VW675ES projector and screen along with labor and cables was right at the budget. The other rack that is in the AV closet that powers and runs our 5.2 living room (Focal Aria's), office audio, and outdoor audio is not included in that budget. The home automation "brain" was included with the house when we built. URC is a partner with our builder. URC Total Control

I have had the audiophile bug since I was in college. I had a pair of B&W CM7SE's and a massive Marantz receiver in my apartment. Over the last 15 years, I have bought and sold dozens of different speakers and amps/preamps searching for that perfect sound. It's my hobby. Vinyl, CD, 5.1 concerts on blu-ray, Atmos concerts and albums on blu-ray...I have it and love it all. Some people like to hunt or fish. Some guys like to build cars. I relax/escape by shutting myself in the room with a nice bottle of bourbon and listen to music. Sometimes is 30 minutes, sometimes it's 4 hours.

I also have two young kids and my favorite part of the day is putting in a 4K movie and watching it with them and my wife. Make some popcorn and it's a better picture, sound, and experience than a crowded theater (big budget action movies in Imax being the exception).

shite no. Get much more enjoyment from my audio equipment and that McIntosh gear holds it value a helluva lot better that a Ford if I need or want to sell. 15 years from now, my McIntosh MC452 will probably be worth more than than that Explorer.

I really like the theater furniture. How comfortable are they?

That is the one big regret I have. I would love to have something like that instead of the giant couch and chaise we have in the room. It was the one thing my wife insisted we have instead on. I figured it was worth the trade off.

Hell, it was a fight to let me paint the walls AND ceiling a dark grey. We initially had a normal white ceiling, but it was reflecting back way too much light and washing out dark scenes on the projector screen. I picked that battle instead of seating.....for now.

I have 4 nice power reclining chairs in my media room. The issue I have is that you are bound to sitting up in a certain way, one by one. No laying down on your side, snuggling with wife or kids etc. I have been thinking about moving the chairs back and up onto a platform and getting a couch for the front row.

McIntosh gear and B&W (Nautilus?) speakers. Nice setup, I'm jealous.

I had to take those pictures using the panorama on my phone, so that weird shite you see at the top is my fan running. The lighting in the room shows up shitty on pictures to for some reason.

i bought a houseboat, but have lost track of budget since, and don't care. then i bought another bc i didn't want a neighbor. true story. would be sweet to have something in, or just outside my house though that didn't have to hook up the boat and drive to though

I have had no complaints on their comfort level. The ONLY downfall that I feel they have is the annoying loud noises that are made when adjusting yourself in the chair (damn pleather). You definitely can't be sneaky while sitting in those babies . They will recline all the way back like a La-Z-Boy recliner, or you can stop the recline mid way and the recline will hold still. They were on clearance for about $187.00 per chair when I ordered them the week of Black Friday. The next day (Wed, Nov 22), I checked the website and saw that they had dropped $20.00, so I called Walmart.com and asked that they adjust the price, which they did. The NEXT day after that (just after my seats had shipped), they dropped another $30.00, so I called Walmart.com and once again, asked for a price adjustment. Unfortunately, this was now Thanksgiving day, and the Walmart.com rep informed me of a statement in their fine print which said that they will not honor any price matching/adjusting starting on Thanksgiving Day and through the Black Friday holiday weekend. Therefore, I didn't get the second price adjustment. I checked the website once again that Saturday (the same day my chairs came in) and saw that the price of the chairs went down to a staggering $97.00 each. I told myself "I'll just call them on Monday and try to get the price adjusted. By this time, I moved all of the chairs upstairs and set them up in the theater room. When Monday came around, I went to the website to see if there were any more price drops on the chair, and FML if the chairs weren't sold out . All in all though, I'm happy with the chairs. Each armrest lifts up and had a deep storage compartment. I really appreciate the extra wide cup holders in both armrests. They fit YETI rambler colsters with ease.

Fronts are 802D, which is the generation after the Nautilus and 2 older than the current Diamond 800 series. I love those speakers so much because of how well it reproduces the source material. The center (HTM1) and rears (804's) are both from the Nautilus line. The sides are the SCMS and the in-ceiling speakers are the Cinema 7. They all blend together very nicely.

I did make a huge mistake around Christmas of accepting an invite from my dealer and going to their open house Christmas party. They were showing off the new line of B&W Diamonds. They had a pair of white 802 D3's being powered by a pair of McIntosh MC2301 tube amps. The new 802's are astonishingly good and made me feel like I was going home to fire up a pair of Sonos or Bose speakers.

I will eventually move on from the B&W's at some point within the next few years and probably go with either Focal, Sonus Faber, or Magico. Ready for a different sound.
