Lufthansa has taken a passenger, who didn't show up for the last leg of his ticketed journey, to court in an apparent bid to clamp down on "hidden city" ticketing. The practice involves passengers leaving their journey at a layover point, instead of making a final connection.

quote:

According to a court document, an unnamed male passenger booked a return flight from Oslo to Seattle, which had a layover in Frankfurt. The passenger used all legs of the outbound flight, but did not catch the Frankfurt to Oslo return flight. He instead flew on a separate Lufthansa reservation from Frankfurt to Berlin.

quote:

Lufthansa saw this as a violation of their terms and conditions and is seeking €2,112 (around $2,385) in compensation. A Berlin district court dismissed the lawsuit in December, but Lufthansa's spokesperson confirmed to CNN that the company has "already filed the appeal against the decision."

I did this two weeks ago with United Airlines.

So far no consequences.

So they're pissed that he didn't take the flight he paid for?

What are Lufthansa's damages here? It seems they got paid for both tickets. Regardless if there was an empty seat on the last leg, they still got paid as if there was a body in the seat.

they're pissed because the passengers are figuring out how to work the system, and the airlines can't do a damn thing about it yet.

Less weight....or they could fill it with a standby passenger.

I've seen a FoxBusiness do a segment recommending this tactic.

So he paid for his ticket, didn't use one leg of the flight, and purchased a separate ticket and they are suing him?

If he didn’t show when they were about to close the door it would go to a standby passenger.

I’m having a real hard time figuring out how this case would have any merit.

It'll be really interesting if they try to pull this "violation" stuff with mixed carriers

Hope they try to argue it's a contract, so airlines can be sued if they deviate from arrival times to etc.

The only issue I could see would be if they had to collect his unclaimed checked baggage and be responsible for it. If no checked baggage he bought two tickets that they sold him.

Great customer service move there.

Obviously they protect themselves in as many ways as possible in their adhesive terms and conditions. But what a bunch of fricks.

I'm going to write some language on my tickets next time and hand it to the agent and then sue when they oversell the flight or do other typical shite.

Paid twice apparently as he took another of their flights for final leg

ETA - see he chose a different destination. Still dumb as he paid for both.
