Whites have figured out first that there is more money to be made in the trades and college is a scam. You will start to see a trend away from college in the next decade as plumbers become rare.

Maybe SU needs to clean it up.

per your link
total enrollment 4865 (100%)
white enrollment 2930 (60%)
black enrollment 945 (20%)
louisiana population
white 60%
black 30%
obviously not all LSU students are LA residents...if they were, the black enrollment "should" be 10% higher than it is

I am a white male with two degrees from LSU. Two of my children have LSU degrees. I think the increase of black students on campus is a good thing. If what we want is a post-racial society (and that is what conservatives should want), then we should care about the color of the student population. We should care about the quality of instruction and the value of the degree.

Better scholarship opportunities at out of state schools. TOPS has made LSU lazy in terms of rewarding the best students with scholarships.
This is true. Bordering states (Arkansas, Mississippi, and also Alabama) know what TOPS pays and they offer merit based scholarships based on that to LA kids. They are getting some of LA's best and brightest while LSU is taking in test optional kids. It's surprising to see how many BR private school kids go out of state. My kid is one of them.

According to Collegeboard, LSU is 19% Black. That is the highest Black percentage in the SEC (next is Mississippi State at 15%).

Also, why's the Black population (4%) at Auburn so low? It's a public college located near the Black Belt.

Idk - my cousins boys went out of state - my son went to LSU from out of state. My cousin’s daughter went to LSU in state and my daughter will go to LSU from out of state. My son’s girlfriend went to LSU from out of state. My kids love Louisiana culture and the 2 boys wanted something different.

I think that White people are less sensitive about it than black people. But what do I know, I’m White. If I was black maybe I’d feel differently.

Because Tuskegee Institute is a few miles down the road in part. Auburn's strongest majors - engineering, vet med, architecture, and ag - attract very few minority students in general.
For many decades, Tuskegee engineering students would take some classes at AU. Not sure if that's still the case, but they never counted in AU's enrollment numbers.

Absolutely… my son has 4.6 GPA, 36 ACT score and is national merit semi finalist. LSU has said he can just use TOPS, nothing else offered so far…So basically we would be out of pocket to go there. He could go to Alabama and several other out of state schools, and receive 5 years fully paid plus room and board and summer abroad stipend. I have talked to many other parents with kids in similar situations who have opted to go out of state because of this. Alabama actually has the second highest number of National merit kids in the country because they are willing to attract them there. The sad thing is he actually wants to go to LSU and be in tiger band.

Don’t let your kid waste their potential going to LSU. Let the mediocre kids go to LSU.
