fees for the Gumbo yearbook be cut entirely,
Hold up- LSU has a yearbook? Like elementary, middle, high school yearbook?
I went to LSU for 5 years, got a masters, and never knew about this. People bought this? Why?
Is this normal for universities to have a year book?

That lazy river is awesome though.

Cutting $200,000+ from our funding would hurt all of Student Media, including faculty.
Why in the happy hell do they need MORE than a 200,000 budget?

I still like looking at my gumbos from time to time too... feel like I'll enjoy showing them to my kids and grandkids.
I still remember the campus damn near burning the media office to the ground when they tried to decide they would not do a book and instead do a digital yearbook.

Ours were free, or I guess they came out of student fees. Anyway it wasn't out of pocket. You showed your ID and picked one up.
Same here. I know of only a few people who went out of there way to get one.
Unless you were in some group or club, it was lame. The year I got one, there wasn't even that much about sports.
Tossed it pretty quick. Definitely a waste of money.
Old media is pretty much dead. If Manship is still pushing 20th century models, they need reform or be gone.

The Reveille is so mad.

The Student Fee for Gumbo specifically details out how many copies have to be printed. The problem is they were left with hundreds of unclaimed copies each year literally sitting in a warehouse
The performing arts fee has been fiscally mismanaged for many years now. It was supposed to be used to bring in shows but has been sitting essentially dormant for years due to staff turnover

This would be a bad deal for LSU because the Manship School is actually one of the better run colleges at LSU.
Cutting student media hurts the students’ ability to do their work and learn their job in a real world environment (or at least a facsimile of it). If student media goes downhill, it will hurt recruiting.
Regardless of how you feel about any particular college, it shouldn’t be messed with if it’s one of the stronger programs. Cut something else if you’re desperate to cut something.

In my years at LSU they cut out the physical Gumbo and said that we could request and order a CD if we wanted one.
I enjoy flipping through my parents' copies of their Gumbo yearbooks. Like a time capsule highlighting all of the significant events and happenings during that year. My dad's senior year they won the national championship in rugby so there was a huge write-up about the rugby team in 1978.

What are they saving with this?

I read the reveille almost everyday when I went there a few years back. I enjoyed it. Listen to klsu almost every day.

What about the fee students pay to let old non-LSU students play cheap golf at LSU? Has that been discussed?

it gives a number of students the opportunity to be in front and behind the camera with Tiger TV. Also, KLSU is pretty well known across the college radio scene.
That's just it though. Why should every student on campus be forced to subsidize a program that gives a handful of kids this experience? If the Reveille wants to save it's arse, get out there and fund raise. Reading the article from the future editor in chief its clear she is an entitled little a-hole. The Reveille is a rag that just recycles articles each year to fan the flames at LSU and cause unrest. I hope they close its doors.

did you hear about the dress code at Reggies?

There were copies of the Reveille all over campus when I was in school. It was good to read while waiting for class to start. I also looked at two old copies of the Gumbo last weekend. I found them while rearranging some stuff in a closet. It brought back a bunch of good memories. I was there in the mid to late 80’s and LSU was a lot better back then, IMHO.

KLSU is great . Especially the specialty shows. That Saturday International show and the Americana show afterwards are awesome. I contribute every year when they have fundraisers in fact . WBRH too.

If you can get your hands on a mid 80's Gumbo, go through the frat pics if you want to laugh. They got away with a TON of politically incorrect stuff. I'm surprised they haven't been recalled and burned. But they are funny as shite.
