SGCR No. 15 recommends a referendum be placed before the student body to request the Board of Supervisors examine the Student Media fee. The legislation proposes the fees for the Gumbo yearbook be cut entirely, and have the remaining fees for The Daily Reveille, Tiger TV and KLSU consolidated into one fee. The legislation also recommends Legacy magazine be discontinued and the fees for it to be reallocated to the remaining student media outlets. If the student body votes in favor, and the referendum passes in the fall, part-time students would pay a $2 fee per credit hour, while they currently do not pay any Student Media fee.

SGCR No. 16 recommends a referendum be placed before the student body to request the Board of Supervisors examine the Performing Arts fee. The legislation proposes the fee be cut entirely and funding instead be done through the College of Music and Dramatic Arts itself.

The Reveille is so mad.

I wish they'd cut it all out completely. Performing Arts and Student Media are complete trash that the entire student body should not have to fund/subsidize.

They should just make the Reveille an annual publication. I don't know anyone that reads those. The only thing I use them for is packing. I'll grab a stack when I walk into work and take them home.

I think this is a pretty good early life lesson for aspiring "journalists". Same thing is happening in newsrooms in the real world.

Pretty sure they already voted to cut it behind closed doors without telling anyone what they were doing.

quote:

My name is Natalie Anderson. I'm the current managing editor of The Reveille and the upcoming editor in chief.

LSU Student Government decided to reevaluate student fees, and just passed a measure in the Student Senate that will completely eliminate and cut Gumbo's funding, as well as eliminate Legacy but reallocate its fees.

As of right now, the student media fee is separated by outlet. Our new student media director (John Friscia) has been advocating to consolidate the funding so he has the freedom to allocate the funds where they're needed. Cutting $200,000+ from our funding would hurt all of Student Media, including faculty.

We are in the process of finding a way to meet with Student Government. We were told after this passed committee that we could defend Student Media in a Student Senate meeting this Wednesday. However, when Friscia received that email, the measure had already been passed in the Student Senate, so they blatantly lied to us. No one in Manship or Student Media was aware that it had already taken place, and the information they used to favor cuts was flawed. No one in SG reached out to students in Student Media either. Additionally, the Manship SG representative, who also serves on Student Media Board, was highly in favor of the cuts.

While we are still gathering info and confirming all the details, we are working to publish an editorial about the importance of Student Media funding. We'd appreciate any testimonies or ways in which The Reveille/Student Media has benefited you during and after college, how it has helped you land jobs, etc. We anticipate to have it ready for tomorrow night so we can run it in print for Wednesday. Please include your current position to show where the Reveille got you, your LSU graduation year and what position you held in Student Media while you were here.

Meh it gives a number of students the opportunity to be in front and behind the camera with Tiger TV. Also, KLSU is pretty well known across the college radio scene. So calling it complete trash is dramatic.

They voted during an open session to have these cuts put on the ballot in the fall for students to vote on. The Reveille even wrote about the committee being formed. If the student media, who pretty much only has to cover LSUPD and LSU SG, feels blindsided by this despite none of it being hidden, they deserve to be cut.

That bitch is just mad they're rightfully cutting her funding because nobody reads her garbage paper.

Either way, I love seeing LSU doing something fiscally conservative for once.

Maybe they should make a publication worth a shite.

Maybe they should realize that, down here at least, the bread and butter doesn’t want to be force fed SJW bullshite like fake nooses and fake threats on door hangers and tearing down history.

Good riddance reveille. You were shite when I was a student and you are 100x worse now.

That seems like a shame, but maybe facebook and the like make it superfluous. I still pull mine out once in a while and look at them.

I was the advertising manager in the late 90s. It was actually a pretty sweet gig and paid well for a student job.

Ours were free, or I guess they came out of student fees. Anyway it wasn't out of pocket. You showed your ID and picked one up.

When I was there you had to pay to buy one, and the fees you paid each semester just went towards the staff who put it together. It was a ripoff.

Same here. I know of only a few people who went out of there way to get one.
