Mobile, Alabama throws some awesome parades, as well.

well, that's certainly debatable.

yeah, good thing she went into detail on her experience at Mobile Mardi Gras.

fact is, the crowds here have been dropping off for years. People go over to the parades in Fairhope a lot more than they use to.

and I'll bet if she had been at the Comic Cowboys parade on Fat Tuesday she would have wrote a piece calling for their organization to be barred for offensive language on the signs of the floats.

I mean there are contrarian pieces of writing and then there are the try hards.

what a waste of space.

I don’t know if I can agree with this. Rhetorical skill is now valued lower than sensationalism. Kids don’t dream of crafting well-reasoned arguments; instead, they want to write some click bait headline with a few meagre supporting paragraphs. Just look at this article, there is no way the author truly believes what she wrote. No one who believes in something can come up with such weak supporting arguments.

I agree with you that the article is garbage, but acknowledging its existence only perpetuates the problem.

Agreed to an extent, yellowfin. BUT college's best writers can still outwrite 95 percent of us. I would like to think the Reveille, itself, is still a very competitive college newspaper...but, the ones who write the editorials should be uncanny and merciless and bait-hooking with a subject -- good or bad. And the 3 or 4 of them who get a chance to do an opinionated column instead of being some beat writer need to prove it early. Come correct or don't come at all. A hate piece on Mardi Gras is the same as a hate piece on McDonalds' service from their employees.

The Reveille hasn't had a decent writer in years. They all write like children. The opinion writers are borderline illiterate. There is some black kid from Memphis who writes occasionally who may be the dumbest motherfricker I've ever seen in my life. His takes try to be very intellectual, but they're just whiney and ignorant.

So let me get this straight. This bitch comes to LSU from Atlanta and decides to shite all over the only other thing the state is known for worldwide? Sounds smart.

I enjoy college papers because the opinion pieces are often so ridiculous.

The kids are full of piss and know-it-all, like most are at that age, and they choose topics that will be controversial and draw eyeballs.

The results are often hilarious.

I remember some LSU kid wrote a piece a few years ago called something like "Arrest Me Damn It!" where he expressed outrage that a cop stopped him (a clean-cut white dude) but let him off with a warning.

She’s probably not even catholic. Guarantee she’s never heard of momus and just doesn’t understand culture.

What in the world in that article pertains to social justice?

environmentalism and attacks on capitalism are 2 benchmarks of the SJW mindset, bro

i didn't include the "flashing" part b/c she didn't get into the details enough, but i bet you $100 she finds it sexist

They've been around long before the SJW term came about.

You know as well as I that more often than not in this board, SJW means "they said something liberal I don't agree with"

This article reads like nothing more than a girl who had a bad experience at Mardi gras grasping at straws to bash it, not some critique on social issues.

And hilariously, the Cornell frat thread makes no mention of SJW even though the term fits perfectly.

Yeah you need people like me back! When I went to LSU, I fully embraced the Mardi Gras scene. Not French but I am Catholic and it was just a great and unique experience.

In fairness, I hated MG in Nola until I started doing it with people who live there and have ways of navigating the city and having spots for the parades. If you just roll up in that bitch with no plan and think you'll just get a room somewhere and Uber/Taxi around you will be miserable.

My friends from VA who have never been here before are so lucky they have me and they don't even know it. I also have LSU friends visiting me (who already know the drill). It's funny how respectful and understanding the LSU fans who know whats going on have been compared to my VA friends who don't understand what is being done for them to make sure their Mardi Gras is enjoyable.

Glad I didn’t grow up in a time where young people were so fricking miserable. We actually lived our lives.
