Hello Section 1983.

I know plenty of BLACK lawyers who would take that case all day long.

you're naive or disingenuous. you don't have to say the n word to be considered racist. the people that do this and take it upon themselves to hunt down "racists" have a very low tolerance for what they deem to be racist.

Attacking the words and actions of idiots in middle school and high school really underlines the fact that the BLM group doesn't give one shite about actually ending racism in this country.

Kids say and do stupid shite all of the time in their youth. Doesn't make it right for them to be dropping the n-word in hate-filled diatribes, but it can definitely happen. Whether the cause of that is their home life, their friend group, their locality - who knows.

However, usually as people mature, gather more world experience, and meet folks outside of their little circle - they begin to see the world differently. Whether that's wisdom, grace or just evolving intellectually. There's an opportunity for personal growth.

If you attack these people in their youth, you're only going to create a more "justified" racist (in the mind of the attacked). This action does not effectuate change of perspective but actually sends the person on the path towards intensified racism.

As a minority professor, she could actually be one of the agents of change in a student's life to help him or her see things beyond their current world view. Instead she's wanting to unilaterally condemn these people to a lifetime as a racist. That sounds entirely backward to me.

I certainly hope she is applying this standard to all students. You can't apply a standard to people of one race and a different standard to people of a different race. That would be racist.

Higher education isn’t supposed to be a safe space. It’s supposed to be a platform for all ideas to come together and for the bad ones to get stricken down using rational and logical approaches.

I agree with this, but there are some things that are outside the Pale and are not to be tolerated. For example, I don't thing a reasoned argument in favor of enslaving all black people should be allowed time in the marketplace of ideas tolerated at a university. Neither should a thesis in favor of Hitler's policy towards Jewish people.

I have no problem with the university not allowing admittance of someone who is extremely hateful. The trouble is when intolerant administrators start persecuting anyone with a mainstream opinion with which they disagree. It's a slippery slope, but there is no way to avoid that. We must depend on the basic reasonableness of our people to maintain a healthy position on that slope.

tl;dr - There is no substitute for a healthy body-politic. Even the brilliance of the US constitution will not save us from a corrupt and decayed citizenry.

Send this nonsense to your state representatives and demand change or the university being defunded further.

The problem is that some “person of color” (so, a colored person?) can have a thesis that all wypipo should be killed or enslaved and it will be lauded.

What is the measuring stick there, though? Does that include minorities who are hateful of their current lot in life? Hateful towards what, specifically, would justify denying admission? One's parents? God?

I would say that if there were a sign of violence from a potential student, then certainly that would be a reason to keep them out of an institution of learning but hate is such an amorphous, difficult to pinpoint feeling. Way too subjective.

College can change mindsets and open them up to so many different viewpoints and ideas. shite, maybe the hateful person just needs to get laid and that melts away. College should be where mixed viewpoints collide consistently and loudly. You have the chance to express yourself, hear someone else's viewpoint, and then maybe change your mind or learn something.
