What does one do in this situation? Park across town and take an uber?
Don't get in that situation.
I was in my parking spot at 0630 my first day of class at LSU, and i went as soon as I had my schedule to find where all the buildings were, and basically walked out my schedule for each day so I wouldn't be lost.
School sucks, but you can't show up at 1030 on the first day and expect to just whip into south stadium and find a spot in 5 minutes.
I can recall one single time in my entire college career that I was not able to find a parking spot and make it to class on time. Theres ALWAYS somewhere to park. OP's kid will figure it out soon like we all did.

My daughter called in tears this morning because she can't find a parking space.
Man if my kid called me crying because they couldn’t find a parking space I’d be more upset with myself than anything else.
How is she going to navigate life on her own if she can’t do something as simple as parking without crying to her daddy?

So the issue isn’t that there isn’t a spot. Issue is there isn’t a convenient spot? Sounds like a soft kid. I blame poor parenting

Not specific to LSU, but I know a little about institutional parking.
LSU, and many of other schools with large numbers of commuters/off-campus students, all over sell yearly parking passes, sometimes by 1.5x or 2x the number of spaces. This means at peak times there will always be a shortage of spaces, at least for the first few weeks of class.
If LSU limited parking passes to the max number of spaces... 1) Many students wouldn't even have the chance to by a pass since they would sellout very quickly, and 2) everyone would be pissed because you would see a lot of empty spots even on the busiest days.
Best solution, schedule 7:30 and 8:30 am classes which guarantees you will always have a spot or take the bus.

I had to walk 20 miles through the steaming, snow filled swamp, stepping on alligators, uphill both ways,

Auburn was definitely like that a million years ago. Maybe there were open spots miles away from anywhere anyone needed to be, but most of us declined to buy passes because they were worthless unless you wanted to plan your schedule around parking.

I can't even speculate on how he would have handled that.
I do remember coming home one evening absolutely livid that I had failed an exam and was at extreme risk of failing the class and having to go to school for a full extra year over it. Generally just pitching a fit and completely irate, because of course it was the professors' fault and he had gone MIA after putting the grades up.
I don't remember exactly what he told me, but it was something to the effect of "Well how do you plan to pay for that?"
frick I hated college so much.

Yup posted this a week ago in another thread. Have a returning senior and returning junior and they cant park on campus anywhere. LSU intranet was down half the day yesterday so people couldn't even access their schedules to see the location of their classes. Cant wait to get my kids out of this shitshow of a university. It's gotten really bad in the last few years. Bad to worse.

And I did the same shite to troll people. I would also walk to my truck to switch out books and equipment I needed for class. I’d fire up the engine and sit in the AC for a while. A line of cars would form because one guy was waiting for my spot. They’d be super pissed when I got back out to go to another class.
And you wonder where all your bad karma came from.

If I had a 9 o clock, I would get there at 8 and drive around for parking, inevitably find it and bring a book to read before class started . That way I was never late

it's been like this for at least 25 years.

People like to laud praise on the exiting president but this is three years in a row incoming parking and housing or both were screwed up.

Define “overselling” parking passes.
Or to put it another way, what would be the “correct” amount of parking passes to sell?
I get what your saying, but this has gotten worse over the years. Coupled with the issues surrounding housing, I think LSU could do better. Certainly there will be a factor of attendance dropping over the coming weeks, but I still believe things are not running right over there. Should they sell at 110%, 130%, 150% of capacity or greater for parking, I don't know, but they should. That's their job.
quote:
But all of this “omg LSU looks so bad and needs to come clean about overselling parking passes” talk is pointless without any further context other than.. the same shite that happens every year. The difference today has as much to do with helicopter parents on social media as it does with LSU.
Here is where I disagree greatly. In the past, LSU was dirt cheap to attend. When I was in school it was less than $1000 per semester. You understood it was an underfunded school, but it was cheap. No longer. The parents paying to send kids here, especially out of state full high tuition, have a right to ask questions. They're seeing stories about rats, roaches, twerking, and chaos. LSU is the flagship, demand more and expect more.
Having attended LSU and been involved in various capacities over the years, I believe part of this issue with moving the school along to greater heights has been a culture of accepting less and saying, "oh well, it's just LSU, it was like that when I was there." Other SEC schools are poaching our top-tier students and continuing examples of stupidity like this reinforces the notion other places are better. Like it or not, they see it on social media.
