It was like this at least 20 years ago.

I used to ride my bike to class. It was about 3 miles to get to campus, took me 10 or 15 minutes and I'd just lock my bike outside whatever building I had classes in. If it was rainy weather I took the bus.

Overselling parking passes should be criminal.

I hope she finds a viable solution or at least can find some people to carpool with.

I used to love walking down the wrong row in the Hart Lot on purpose while someone followed me then jumping over to the row where my car was parked at the last second.

Parking was always horrible at the beginning of the semester. It gets better later in the semester once people stop going to class. Or she could take a 7:30 am class and never have any problem parking. Try to park at 9 or 10 am and you’re boned, even 15 years ago.

Gonna have to get there early. I always allotted myself 30 minutes or so to find a parking space and walk to class back in the day. Yes, parking suck back in the early 2000s too.

Once she realizes LSU commuter parking is a stealth pass/fail course essential to any degree offered, she will be on her way toward focusing on a problem solving achievement unmatched by any liberal arts course credit.

How someone doesn’t get fired for this debacle is beyond me.

LSU could do so much better.

Parking used to get considerably better after the first two weeks of classes. I assume this is still the case.

Bruh, thirty years ago when I was at LSU I had a bike to make that marathon onto campus bearable. Tell her to get a bike or a scooter or something. If parking has her in tears, you have a charmin soft kid.

This was the case 15 years ago as well.
Either leave early or take the bus, assuming she lives near campus in an apartment.
This is also the first week, it’ll be easier by next week.

We waited too long and could not get a commuter pass so my son bought the park n geaux for $50 - my other son has class at 7:30, so older son drops him off by bell tower and goes and parks by the baseball stadium

With the money he saved he could take your daughter to lunch ….

I'm sorry but LSU is looking sloppy right now.

For all the folks calling this girl soft, maybe she shouldn't be crying, but LSU is not being run correctly and not living up to flagship status.

If they oversold parking passes, shame on them. Come clean and admit it.

Nailed it. And I did the same shite to troll people. I would also walk to my truck to switch out books and equipment I needed for class. I’d fire up the engine and sit in the AC for a while. A line of cars would form because one guy was waiting for my spot. They’d be super pissed when I got back out to go to another class.

It sucks, but parking is a problem on lots of major campuses. It’s not truly a lack of available parking, rather a lack of preferred parking areas. It’s like a gameday on campus and the search for free parking. Get there early and/or be ready to walk.

take the bus,

this thread just triggered memories of young jeffo having to stand in the aisle on a completely full bus, holding on to a bar attached to the ceiling, just to return to tigerland around 3 pm.

kinda miss those days tbh

I don't disagree at all. Many schools don't allow freshman to have cars and also limit total parking passes available. LSU seems to have screwed up on allotments for housing and parking, so I'd be curious how classes and other logistical aspects are going.

LSU is not doing well recruiting for high achieving in-state students, and these types of stories don't help with the local audience who might consider sending their kids to school here.
