Your momma wears shoes like that every time I come over.
Are you 13? Surely you're not a grown man.

That's the Robert De Niro special. Adds a few inches.
Damn, I'd feel like a total fool walking around in something like that just to make myself look taller in a movie.
Kind of reminds me of stories about other short movie stars having wooden platforms built for them to walk on next to taller co-stars so they wouldn't look like midgets.
Edited to add this: It is widely known that Alan Ladd, one of Hollywood's leading men at the time, was only around 5' 6" tall.
In one movie they dug trenches for Hugh O'Brien to walk in as he walked next to Ladd so they could appear eye to eye. In another film with Sophia Loren, who was 2 inches taller than Ladd, they stacked planks on the set so they could appear the same height.
At one time, Ladd was dating Veronica Lake, who at 4' 11" was the perfect size for Ladd.

That’s not women’s shoes. It’s shoes for one particular culture of women.

Of all things to look at on LSU’s campus at graduation, you chose shoes. Pretty sus

He's likely doing that because the director requested him to do so.
Relative height is a fairly common issue in movie production.

I’ll hate on De Niro as much as any other red blooded American, but he’s obviously on a movie set.

70's hookers shoes are fashionable now I guess?

Guily. And it didn't look stupid back then with the right pair of flares. It was the style for the early '70's.

Graduation, you say? Good, they won't be wearing those for much longer. Sad, though, that they had to wear their work shoes to graduation. I guess all they earned really did go towards tuition.
