Imminent domain the properties for LSU and State government use and lease a portion out as business incubators involved with LSU and State Government. Maybe some green space and few parking garages too.

Builds a buffer around campus and puts state and higher education friendly business next door.

God forbid we establish a well trained and educated workforce with nearby job opportunities.

Not really. City can donate blighted properties to the university in exchange, the university pays the 20 a year in property taxes

Who cares? There are shite hole neighborhoods all over Baton Rouge that aren’t next to LSU. Move to one of them.

Lol, you have to be joking. LSU had thousands of acres and you believe they can just take what they want for green space and parking garages????

Sounds more like socialism or communism to me.

LSU can’t just confiscate property. They can’t dominate and control pariah politics. There are no legal remedies that they can use to change their environment.

LSU should’ve been proactively buying up every property in its vicinity for the past 30 years.

Do you have any idea of the corruption, fiscal and ethical, that is in LSU middle and upper management?

They’ll come to your neighborhood next, idiot. That’s why you care. There are organizations and entities that put thugs where they don’t belong. How is a poor family that doesn’t work able to move into my neighborhood? Why are there section 8 housing developments on the fringes of most neighborhoods. Why does affirmative action exist?

These people have ruined New Orleans, and Baton Rouge is catching up.

Notice that you do not even mention, let along give the majority of the blame to, the corrupt politicians that have run this state & school for decades. This pollyanna ship has long since sailed. For whatever / whoever reasons, the racial divide, in this city, state & the rest of the country, is now too deeply entrenched to be eradicated by pipe dreams.

So, the only two options are:

1. Right next to LSU
2. My neighborhood

There's a lot of fricking land outside of those choices.

What an idiotic comment.

Point is you’re not going to keep out the riff raff by razing everything and expanding LSU - especially with a terrible police force, corrupt politicians, and organizations that want to ruin your life

That's the issue. Rice, UH, and even Houston Baptist University have bought properties near their campuses to build up more attractive retail or food options, and housing. But they were dealing with commercial property or apartments, not single-family residential. No university wants to become landlord to ghetto residents even in the short term, or face protests for running them off.

I thought they were fixing all problems by passing a law that all us landlords have to put security lighting and cameras all around our properties.

Are you trying to say that won’t end all crime?!

Edit: I missed the point on the thread

Elections have consequences. This is JBE's utopia. This is the political will of LSU's current leadership. Look at the Board of Supervisors, which are all his appointees. Guess which ones are doing nothing? At some point leaders have to lead. It's very unlikely that will happen until the current cast of characters is replaced.

Speaking out about real solutions to the crime issues in BR earns the speaker the 2020s scarlet letter. Nothing will change until that changes.

What good are threats from LSU or those conpanies? They aren't going to do anything, certainly aren't going to leave the area.

Any company that can leave has left.

They have employees and customers that vote. They have financial resources. When those organizations speak publicly on issues, it's newsworthy.

Starbucks closing down a single coffee shop in New Orleans made the news.
