I'm shocked by that tbh, considering they could feasibly double up on the facility usage for the men's team

I don't know much about collegiate women's basketball's operating costs apparently.

lol you think ticket sales make up a huge portion of that

100,000 people paying $50-$250 per ticket (TAF fees included) adds up pretty fast

Without a season you don't have the $42M in ticket sales
now subtract the expenses directly tied to having people in the stadium.

It's all about TV money. They just need the season to happen at all cost. Even with no fans.

Yeah it does but the premise is correct IMO. A ton of sports will end up getting cut, especially men’s. It won’t happen overnight but the day could come where a lot of schools have football, basketball, enough to satisfy Title 9, and that’s it.

My numbers were closer to 90M but 80M isn’t far off

Not lose 80 million just not make 80 million. No one is taking 80 million from LSU thus they didn’t lose it

An example perhaps you can grasp. If you expected to make $600 next month as a full time Flutter and Felcher for hire did you not have monthly expenses that money was set to pay?

Since the pandemic began, the president says the school has already spent about $12 million.

$12 million on what?

I would imagine testing, cleaning supplies, extra workers to clean all buildings, different iterations of masks and shields, etc. Not sure that adds up to 12 million but I’m sure it’s not cheap. They’re also doing advanced testing (more than just the General COVID tests) on the players I believe. I would guess the 12m is for the entire campus- not just athletics.

I’m pretty sure the head coach is way overpaid, which is probably a significant reason for them being the program that loses the most money

They'll make that up next year by putting even more ads on the scoreboards.

The committee that is going to recommend which buildings on campus should be renamed should sell the naming rights to those buildings. They’ll find an excuse to rename almost every structure so the revenue should be pretty sweet.

Not as much as their parent advertising company which I believe is CBS advertising

I love my school but I would be lying if I said there isn’t a part of me hoping this does happen. LSU has been so thoroughly mismanaged and has been running a deficit for years that maybe this coupled with less kids enrolling in classes could be the catalyst for real change.

Does this take into account the expenses they will not have due to things being cancelled? If we play football and the others are cancelled, we make a butt ton more. If we don’t play anything there are some savings in expenses and everyone who opts out without a refund has their money sitting there earning interest for the school for a year. I’m just wondering if the “loss” takes into account all those items.
