I've given money to my old college a few times

This wasn't the case when Chancellor O'Keefe was running the show. He knew how to drum up funds. But the egg heads and libtards ran him out of town. Since then it's been a revolving door of incompetence in the administration.

The building fund is a different thing, apparently. They'd have project money earmarked years in advance.
I did graduate a year and a half ago, and I've gotten letters asking for donations already. Let me pay off my loans first!

Well at least one business major lied like hell. $225k starting salary with a general business degree?

The river itself didn't cost $85M. That's the total for the rec center expansion. Which was approved by student vote.
Remove the lazy river from the project and no one even hears about it, though.
Rec Center is also an auxiliary which means they must be self sufficient.

It is foolish to contribute money to the least efficient public institution in the state.

For starters, tuition is only one component of the revenue stream for a university.
For purposes of discussion, why doesn't tuition cover costs of running the business? Shouldn't it?

Yes, because my education was partially underwritten by donors that I received scholarship(s) from, learned from teachers who received professorships made possible by donors, and sat in classrooms & labs that were top-notch thanks to donors.
Consider it my part in "paying it forward" as others did for me.
I get the "Pay it forward" piece in your case of scholarships, but what about the student who pays his way without any of these subsidies from the University? Isn't it the university's primary obligation to provide professors and facilities to teach?
The government subsidizes the University with loans and grants for students (among many others). Individual donors and companies subsidize the University through direct contributions. I believe these both contribute to waste and inefficiencies, just as any other subsidy does.
(I donate as well, but I find the discussion interesting)

Hey but we can come up with $15 million in a matter of 3 days !!
I know for a fact that at least one of those big TAF donors has never given a nickel to the academic side

LSU Ad gets like $900 a year from me (Which I promptly turn into $1800 a year, but still...).

Easily confused?
I thought it said your wife contributes $16.93 to LSU because that's when it was founded. I just re-read it and see you specified it goes to her alma mater which obviously is not LSU.
Sorry about that....
