Lowe's for nicer items
Home Depot for more basic necessities
ETA: usually whichever one is closer to wherever I am at the time. Lowe's is closer to my house, but Home Depot is closer to my office.

Whichever is more convenient, but only for common type stuff. If I need something for a repair or procedure I'm not experienced or comfortable with, I go to Ace.

Their color schemes for both of them are very purposeful... red and blue and nicer are more attractive for females whereas orange and not as nice are more attractive for males.
