Well, I've been watching the dude on my local news cry about gas station weed for the last couple of weeks. He is bound and determined to stamp it out. Leading the charge!! Now I've never bought gas station weed, and doubt I ever will, but I feel like there are a lot more pressing issues in this state to focus on. It seems like an issue that a smarmy upstart politician who is trying to make a name for himself would tackle, instead of actually doing something for their constituents.

So no, my first inclination was not to insult him. But it was my inclination to do so after I saw where he was focusing his attention and righteous indignation.... On Delta 8 gummies.

Have you called his office and let him know? Maybe run against him next election?

So EBR does not just steal from St. George. Wonder who else they steal from.

This may be the best political move ever. Should get re- elected with ease after this. Not sure it was done for this reason, but shows constituents he's fighting for them.

That’s actually accurate, unfortunately. Bad news when it dries up.

Yes it is and even more troubling is some of those federal funds come with strings attached that require the state to continue them.

They do the majority of damage but sure put ANY elected official in Louisiana in that group.

Doesn’t the governorship in Louisiana rank as one of the most powerful gubernatorial positions in the country?

Yeah, except he's not. Remember that time he wanted to make the 0.45% sales tax that is set to roll off in 2025 in perpetuity. He even authored the amendment. He ran his campaign on lowering taxes, small government, and all the other typical talking points that conservatives like, but in the end, he got down to Baton Rouge and became what we've all come to expect out of our state legislature.

If your idea of fighting for his constituents consists of keeping Louisiana the highest sales taxed state, then you're getting it. I think there's someone else running to try to unseat him, and this issue alone tells me Cathey is not for less taxes or small government.

which would take $7.5 million in property tax revenue from schools and the sheriff in East Baton Rouge Parish and redistribute it among other parishes. Baton Rouge collects the revenue from a tax on railroad cars throughout the state that are leased from companies outside the state.
You usually get a collection fee not the entire collection.

An unusual triumvirate opposed Cathey: Barrow, Sen. Bodi White, R-Central, and Broome. They said taking away the money would force cuts in needed programs in East Baton Rouge Parish
Boo hoo.

Does Broome show up for every debate or did she somehow know this might come up?

Assuming tax is legit and shouldn’t just go away Not getting fair share of money I am sure has caused cuts or increased taxes in other places. EBR has gotten 50 years of this advantage and shouldn’t see anything for awhile from this.

complained that Cathey hadn’t followed normal courtesy by giving them a heads up to discuss the bill first.
It seems like this bill has had some activity and not a complete unknown situation to committee. Officially referred to committee 2 weeks ago.

Cathey was in the wrong here, and to his credit, he apologized. When you curse another Senator while poking a finger in therei face, your are asking for trouble.
I support Cathey's objective on this bill, but he needs to work on the way he deals with people.

He looks like a smug frat boy. You can't do what he did to a woman, man, democrat, republican, black, white, whatever. He needs to calm TF down.

quote:

Neither Cathey nor Barrow are geniuses, so they are both lucky Broome intervened and calmed them down

I want everything to think about this statement.

In a group of three... Broome... Broome was the voice of reason.

Let that sink in.

So besides the "clash" here, I learned a couple of things.

1) There is a statewide, stzte sanctioned proeprty tax on rail cars.

2) All of this money somehow stays in EBR.

Y'all may remember in the thread about Sen Nelson getting rid of income tax and placing more reliance on property tax, I said that way too much money flows through state government control. This is a perfect example of how the entire tax system in the state needs massive, massive reform.

Well if you knew the guy you’d know he’s a douche. A lazy frick that ran for every office he could and lost every time until some rich guy backed him. He probably didn’t have a clue about this until his handler told him what to do.

I would have threw a hay maker on that bitch. Either way, there is no way this doesn't happen more often. With all those politicians trying to fight for their best interest (whether its their own best interest or the best interest of their constituents).

I bet phone calls between politicians is where its at, I bet they tell each other all kind of shite.
