In 10-20 years, Louisiana will be a poor version of Florida where the number of elderly people vastly outnumber younger people. The difference is that in Louisiana the older people all live in trailer parks and shanty houses and can’t afford to move anywhere else

They will end up in shitty retirement homes here while the company running those homes end up with all the trashy property.

Finally a list of poor states that we'd like to be on, and of course we are not.

That's ok. We get so much bang for our buck here.

Greater New Orleans area is expensive to live

Yep. With the exception of a very few dumpy areas, anythining within 30 miles(or more up towards the northshore) is stupid expensive for being in this crappy state.
That's just the real-estate. Add in homeowners, flood, and car insurance and it's a mess.

Any state that has been under majority Democrat rule since its founding is going to have high taxes with little return for its citizens. The goal of every Democrat run area is to kill the middle class. LA has been excelling at this now for decades. Combine that with JBE and the idiot mayors in our largest cities, all of which are bought and paid for by lawyers, and here we are.

Third world status, here we come! Yay!!

Ehh how close are we though?

For instance Baton Rouge and Nola are more expensive than anywhere in Mississippi.

So you’ve got like two places dragging us up.

The only thing I can think about when looking at that list is “you get what you pay for”

Idk

Seattle is like higher cost of living than prob most of the big cities in those states. What are you really getting in Seattle? Not cleaner air, not a cleaner city.

3) New Mexico

Not in Santa Fe county, and must be excluding gross receipts tax. Rentals are very high, utilities are legit low, cost of having a house re-stucco'ed is crazy high, property taxes are relatively high. All-in ATL was definitely cheaper.

But you're comparing a city to states, when the OP is the "Top 10 cheapest states to live in"

Give me a town in Washington over a comparable town in Alabama any day of the week and twice on Sundays

The key to Louisiana is learning to find the good in small doses.

Before they slap a 10% tax on it

insurance knocked us off the list

We moved to La last year. Insurance is the only thing that's higher cost than Illinois. Literally everything is cheaper.

Insurance is something Louisiana has to work on. I seriously think automobile insurance rates would drop with fewer accidents. And we'd see fewer accidents if LADOTD actually maintained the highways.

I've never seen so many roads that are totally neglected with pot holes, worn out reflective stripes, broken lighting, and grass in the public right of way tall enough to block line of sight for turning vehicles. Louisiana's DOTD really sucks.

And we need to do something about the damn personal injury lawyers. Lawsuits galore for minor accidents....that has to slow down.
