Louisiana man sentenced in killing of girlfriend's cat with machete

HOUMA, La. (AP) - A Louisiana man accused of killing a girlfriend's cat and throwing it into a bayou has been sentenced to three years in prison.
The Houma Courier reports a judge handed down the sentence to 30-year-old Cody Toups after he pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated cruelty to animals Jan. 3. Prosecutors say Toups also cannot own animals for 10 years.
The Thibodaux man was arrested in August. He was accused of grabbing the cat from inside his girlfriend's home and throwing it into Bayou Lafourche.
When the girlfriend's father tried to pull the cat out of the water, authorities say, he grabbed a machete and fatally struck the animal.
Authorities say deputies found the dead cat floating in the bayou with a large cut on its midsection.
3 years in jail over a dead frickin cat? I admit it was cruel, but it’s a cat. We have to pay for this dude to be locked up for 3 years, then probably many more after that because he won’t be able to get a job when he gets out and prisons are just colleges to become criminals so I’m sure he’ll be back in. Over a cat.

Animal cruelty is one of the hallmark signs of sociopaths which can ultimately become murderers or even more as serial killers.
You should be glad a person like this is behind bars.

There is a 1 year min so my guess is if he plead out on a 3 year suggested sentence there is probably more to the story or his history.
