I mean seriously, you think this trailer trash isn't going to wind up back in prison one way or another?
I mean just because you don't give a shite about a type of animal that is someone's pet doesn't give you the right to go murder it.
Your lack of understanding that this is someone's pet is a little disturbing. Is this really the type of guy you want to go to bat for here? Really really disturbing. But okay. Especially to kill in this manner.

Following an investigation, Toups was taken into custody and was booked into the Lafourche Parish jail on a $15,000 bond. He also had an outstanding warrant for contempt of court, authorities said.

He was accused of grabbing the cat from inside his girlfriend's home and throwing it into Bayou Lafourche.
He probably should have stopped around here and taken the littering charge.

I mean it's bad enough he throws it into the water or whatever.. but then the girlfriend's father is trying to save it and he goes and hacks at it with a machete? Yikes.
It's bad enough when people shoot random animals in some twisted fashion.. but to go hack up someone's pet while it's still alive??
I'm really not sure 3 years is enough for such a disturbing person.. I imagine we are better off with him locked up..

Not reading that but good, according to the title.

If someone is not fit for living in society put a bullet in their head and be done with it. The arguement that he’s deranged so this is protectignsociety for what he could have done makes no sense to release him in 3 years. He either is ok living in society or he’s not.

3 years in jail over a dead frickin cat? I admit it was cruel, but it’s a cat.
If someone is capable of hurting and killing a defenseless creature like a domesticated pet that depend on humans for survival, then that's a warning sign this someone has the makings of someone who will eventually kill a human one day and that's why need to make sure he has a good sized taste of what he will get for the rest of his life if he goes that far.
Prison time is the appropriate deterrent here.

it's not a fair sentence, and what he's closer to is irrelevant. He's not going to jail bc of your theoretical future crimes. 3 months would be excessive. Put the dude out there taking care of animals 8 hrs a day for 6 months would make a lot more sense.
Couldn't agree more considering the parish kills about a dozen a week and we pay for it.

Absolutist arguments like this could work if domesticated pets and humans were on the same level but they're not.
This prison sentence is both a punishment for a crime that violates the public conscience and a deterrent and a warning and as to what will happen to him in the future if he takes the next step of violent action towards a human.

If it was a dog you retards would be losing your shite over it only being three years.
A guy south of Shreveport got 11 years for poisoning dogs in his neighborhood, a lot of judges take this stuff seriously.

They need to send him to one of the prisons with a cat program. Im sure the inmates would treat him very well

Uh the parish does it in a way that is humane, protects the dignity of all involved and makes sure the animal has a peaceful death.
This crime was cruel, violent, and done out of selfishness and bitterness.
Not even remotely close to the same thing at all.

Dogs may be better company and better pets overall but cats aren't a complete and total loss as there are some really good ones. I know a couple that has one cat and she is the sweetest thing ever and would jump in anyone's lap and rub her head against them and meow and look at you with almost a smile on her face.

They sell rat traps at the grocers
You can kill deer just fine,
But if you stab girlfriends kitty,
Then you’ll probably do some time,
A cop can shoot a doggie,
and get away scot free,
You can shoot a duck or possum,
Hook the fishes out the sea,
Eat a cow or pig or chicken,
Boil crawfish by the score,
You can pick out your own lobster,
From the local grocery store,
We rain death upon these creatures,
And most folk won’t bat an eye,
But if one man kills a kitty,
You think he deserves to die?

The parish grabs pets from people's homes and hacks them up with machetes? All while the owner of the pet is trying to save it?
If the guy did it to some stray cat he wouldn't have gotten near the punishment. It's still sick, in my opinion, either way.

What if the cat attacked him first. Two sides to every story.

For a cat? That's ridiculous. I blame all the childless retreads and their fur babies. They're animals, not people.
I think it has more to do with the person and not the cat. As a couple of others have stated in the thread, this is about a violent individual and hopefully stopping him.
Anyway, he’ll probably only serve a month or two and get the rest suspended with parole.

You're probably a psychopath. Psychopath's don't know their psychopaths. The guy throwing the cat into the Bayou is one thing. You could say he just freaked out, was having a bad day and made a rash decision. But then the girlfriend's dad tries to save the cat and this dude just pops up with a machete and hacks away at it. This dude is psycho. I'm surprised he didn't kill the girlfriend and her dad. He was too busy trying to kill that cat though.

Yeah, I'm sure that would go over well for the animals.
