Louisiana's coronavirus-related death toll surpassed 4,000 on Thursday, making it the 12th state to report at least that many victims.

Doctors and scientists have learned more about the virus in the past several months, including gaining a better understanding of the types of underlying health conditions, or comorbidities, victims have.

In Louisiana, the state's department of health routinely updates a list detailing victims' most common underlying conditions.

quote:

As of Thursday (Aug. 6), here's a breakdown of those comorbidities:

Hypertension (high blood pressure): 57.92%
Diabetes: 35.35%
Cardiac disease: 20.63%
Chronic kidney disease: 19.88%
Obesity: 18.62%
Neurological: 16.58%
Congestive heart failure: 14.36%
Pulmonary: 12.04%
Cancer: 7.36%
Asthma: 3.85%

In a state where obesity is close to 50%, it’s hard to imagine 82% of the deaths are from non obese people

Louisiana's population is roughly 4.6 million.

Lets say all 4k of those deaths are completely COVID and COVID only, then we have lost 0.086% of our population to this virus.

For the non-math majors, thats just under 9 HUNDREDTHS of one percent.

A death can obviously be attributed to more than one underlying cause as the percentages add up to way over 100%.
18% are obese, that’s surprisingly low.

Exactly. These stats are clearly misleading.

Not to mention that others categories of cause of death have probably dropped down.

I wonder what the ages of the people that died with asthma. I have a 13 year old with it and that is my only worry if/when she gets this virus.

and that's with deaths not caused by COVID but include COVID. We are so fkd as a society/nation. If people don't rise up against this kind of overreach we are doomed.

Isn't the average age of death, at least nationally, 80 years old ? Most of them are shrunken

I'm fat and have the Hypertension. And have the Co-Hiv(Day 4 of symptoms, Day 2 since positive test).

What's not being spelled out here is 'how fat' and 'uncontrolled' hypertension. I have a rock-solid ICU source from two Baton Rouge Hospitals who noted those two facts/comorbidities a month before it was widely shared across the country.

I take my daily BP pill and I waddle and workout a few times a week.

My Co-Hiv is mild thus far. I've been working from home since March and feel good enough to do some work. I also just vacuumed/swept the living room without falling out.
But if that changes, feel free to bookmark this post and make fun of me POST-humously.

So covid exacerbates the shite we've already been dying from before? Really not that surprising. Yet the govt won't ever talk about eating healthier, working out, losing weight, etc. to combat the disease. What a joke.
