I’m sure the requirements for the cosmetology license and the floral license were passed just so the legislators didn’t have to hear their wives bitch.

All it took was one of their wives coming home and bitching about how someone fricked up her hair, or someone fricked up the floral arrangement for a funeral and they immediately drew up a bill.

Great news. You need education hours to be a barber, hairdresser, do fingernails and toenails so why not hair braiders?

Louisiana is one the most overly credential/certification requiring states.

Maybe, but you couldn't possibly be more wrong about cosmetology requirements in many states.

Here are Alabama's requirements:

quote:
As a field, cosmetology is regulated by each state. In Alabama, the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering oversees the education, testing, and licensing of beauty professionals. Before you can qualify for a cosmetology license in this state, you must complete a curriculum of no fewer than 1,500 training hours.

During your 1,500+ hours, you may spend time in the classroom, working with mannequin heads, and working with real clients. No matter which school you attend, the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering requires you to go through specific courses.

As a student or apprentice, you must complete coursework in the following subject areas:

• Sanitation, sterilization, and allied sciences
• Skin care and makeup
• Manicures and nail care
• Coloring and bleach
• Shampoos and rinses
• Hair cutting
• Hair styling
• Permanent waving

This leaves some wiggle room for schools to focus on other skills and techniques with their remaining hours.

Depending on the cosmetology school you choose, you may study subjects like these:

• Client consultation
• Professional image
• Braiding
• Time management
• Salon procedures and culture

Or:

quote:
• 3,000 apprenticeship hours may be completed in place of the required 1,500 cosmetology training hours

Then you have all the exams and associated fees to account for.

At least try to figure out if what you are saying is, in fact, true or not.

Yea man I just made it up......

Because braiding hair should fall under being a hairdresser.

Is this the same legislature that waved the bar exam for an entire class of law students a couple years ago? Sounds about right.

Maybe, maybe not, but the basis of your argument regarding this thread was just......wrong. Because of that it makes people question anything else you may say.

Just try to to better is all I'm saying.

Texas requires a 35 hour course. No test. Seems Louisiana is more F'd up than I thought.

The Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation requires aspiring hair braiders to complete a 35-hour training course. There are no testing requirements—just finish the 35-hour course and you’ll have met the state’s expectations.
