People conducting the research and rankings must not have read this site.

ok...even if Mississippi has a slight edge in stuff like education and infrastructure (49th vs 50th) would you really rather live in Mississippi than Louisiana?

I think our teacher pay is lower than neighboring states but our spending per pupil is middle of road yet we still rank 48th in education. It's not a spending problem.

We have one of the largest uneducated populations in the developed world as well. High incarcerations rates are bound to be a side effect.

The people demanding money for education aren’t “the people”, it is the teacher’s unions and the parish school boards.

You know, same assholes supporting JBE.

JBE is going to dangle a pay raise to buy their support for re-election. If he really gave a shite about education and quality teachers, he would be pushing that in the legislative session happening right now.

I think its cute that yall still try so hard to be relevant as anything other than a place for people to get drunk and pee on the street.

I'm not sure how much influence JBE has over the education system having a plethera of admin positions draining the budget. It's been that way for decades. Its the #1 factor for spending so much per pupil yet get bad results

The legislature in this state has a tremendous amount of control over education because they control the purse strings.

And JBE would have had more control over the legislature if he hadn’t fricked up immediately after taking office through trying to force his choice as Speaker despite not controlling a majority of seats.

There is so much deep entrained money grabbing and robbing its citizens, its hard for anyone to make any headway regardless if its an R or D behind their name.

Believe me, I’d much rather live in MS than those liberal safe spaces. And to be honest, keep us right there at the bottom of this made up list. It will keep those hipsters out of my town.

This is such a sad comment to read. Bragging about horrible healthcare, state fiscal health and horrible education. But whoooo it keeps “hipsters” out.

Have you never been outside of Louisiana? The entire world outside of South LA isn’t the liberal shithole portrayed on the news. It’s okay to strive to better our state, increase education and reduce corruption.

This. I was thinking the same thing. This is the mindset of the people who have been running the state for the past 75 years and it’s why it is the way it is. All the problems are self created.

People confuse black run cities with liberal.

Liberal cities (not as extreme as San Francisco) that put money into parks, schools, and their communities are often nice places to live.

I'd rather live in a liberal town in Maine or Vermont than some Republican run dump in Alabama.

California is the white trash king. As a city, it's Las Vegas. Washington and Oregon are full of em too

You'll find people you loathe anywhere you do, in great numbers outside of some urban pockets. Wisconsin and Michigan are loaded
