A group of thugs in high school, inside of a classroom could possibly disarm a teaching carrying, and use the gun against them.

How is this any different than any other CC situation?

Flipping OP’s question…Why does Louisiana expressly prohibit trained and licensed teachers from carrying on campus?

It’s not forcing teachers to carry. Or asking them to police with firearms. It’s simply not prohibiting those who are trained, licensed, and legally capable of carrying from carrying on campus if they were comfortable to do so.

Unless the teacher is a trained police officer or former police officer or Veteran I am against this.

I'm against rando teachers carrying firearms. If a couple want to take some really intense training over the summer and get signed off by a LE agency, then I may be ok with it.

The only school personnel who should be armed are the principal’s secretary and the baws who coach and are driving instructors.

Do people really think half the people in pickup lines for schools in Louisiana don’t have guns inside the vehicle? I’m not taking a firearm out of my truck every time I pick up my son from school because of a sign that might or might not be in front of a school.

Dumb statement is dumb.

There are plenty of people out there that have never been in LE or the military that are HIGHLY trained because they choose to be.

The average teacher would leave a loaded pistol in her desk and go buy some milk duds from the vending machine. Then some nut kid uses it to kill her and a pile of other kids.

My scenario is 100X more likely than teacher safely securing her gun and one day using it to prevent tragedy.

School teacher here & have a CC permit. I would volunteer to have the responsibility of protecting my school in an emergency.

I hear gunshots and run over to investigate because my kid is in that school.

Not to say I would be that brave, but I can hope.

With the law as is if I kill or injure the shooter, I could be charged for having a firearm in a school zone.

Yes you would more than likely be charged. It would be total bullshite but would happen. That said, saving kids lives would be worth it.

zero amount of training will make you proficient in the possibility of having to kill a child, much less another person

I can’t think of any teacher I know that would be profilcient at high stress shooting to make a difference. They’d probably bitch chambering a round under stress.

It’s all good til some 18y/o 6-grader wrestles the gun away from the teacher.

It’s 100% legal to have a firearm inside your vehicle on school grounds. The “gun free zone” doesn’t apply to your vehicle.

A bunch of jumpy women carrying guns is probably not the way to solve this issue

I would not be here today to post on this cesspool of a message board if some of my high school teachers were allowed to carry firearms.

I agree. Rural teachers in general would probably be safer choice of teachers to carry guns.
Interesting, more school shootings occur in rural areas than I would have guessed.

Training and proficiency is the key. Just letting teachers carry would cause more harm to students and teachers as well.
