Delete if already asked.

Any chance Louisiana is considering allowing teachers to carry?

It doesn’t seem they do now, though curious if there’s a lobbying group on this. I’m struggling to find info online other than ink below from a concealed carry group.

Watching the security footage of the Nashville situation definitely made me think, “Man - if only the staff could carry, then maybe…”

ETA: 32 states allow firearms on campus and for teachers to carry. Louisiana is not one of them.

tOT: I don't trust teachers because they're indoctrinating my kids with woke content.

Also tOT: I trust them to carry a firearm in a classroom full of kids.

A bunch of jumpy women carrying guns is probably not the way to solve this issue

It was discussed back in 2015ish after another school shooting. There were local police chiefs and sheriffs who wanted to deputize teachers. It got huge blow back from liability lawyers in Louisiana.

Eh. Maybe it’s because the teachers around me aren’t teaching the “woke” curriculum.

Women are pretty protective and level headed when it comes to kids in danger… not for much else, but I give them that.

Mama bear and all that kinda stuff.

Bunch of Louisiana women and probably around rural areas everywhere would be better marksmen than I am, so I give them that benefit.

With some .22s, sure thing buddy.

But, oddly, I thought this group would be okay with arming teachers and staff.

So many other states do it, I figured Louisiana would.

Realistically, few teachers would do it. Only the ones who were confident enough and got permission from their husbands would, right?

I don't want most of the teachers I've met carrying and none of them would want to carry anyway. Anecdotal.

As a teacher I wouldn’t like this. I’d trust myself to responsibly carry it but I would not trust some of the people I work with honestly.

This would also mean the male coaches could carry.

It’s really more of a legal question of a firearm free zone and if Louisiana is considering allowing firearms on campuses by licensed individuals.

Let me share an example

It seems that based on current law in Louisiana that if I was legally carrying a firearm near a school - outside of 1000 feet.

I hear gunshots and run over to investigate because my kid is in that school.

Not to say I would be that brave, but I can hope.

With the law as is if I kill or injure the shooter, I could be charged for having a firearm in a school zone.

I think teachers should absolutely be allowed to carry if they have a documented level of training and proficiency.

Not a teacher, but I'd volunteer to patrol school hallways a couple of days a week

I'm 1000% PRO gun and believe in concealed carry or Constitutional carry.

BUT, we don't need a bunch of teachers with a tool that can quickly take a life.

I think there should be several (maybe 6-10) in a school that should be allowed to have access to a firearm LOCKED in a safe on their floor or near their room, etc.

Otherwise, I would just rather spend money posting trained (POST CERTIFIED) "people" at each school. It is a hell of a lot more important to me to spend money on this than send all of these funds to other countries (YES, I understand the reason for keeping communism in it's place)

They had no on-site security and no bullet proof glass

Every christian school needs that shite IMO. Parents will pay extra for security, don't think they won't.

In a place like Baltimore I think it would be a horrible idea. A group of thugs in high school, inside of a classroom could possibly disarm a teaching carrying, and use the gun against them.

I honestly have mixed feelings regarding this.

On one hand, I think about those teachers in Sandy Hook. They died trying to cover up their kids in the classroom, they were sitting ducks. What if they could have had a gun on to protect not only themselves, but the kids from that POS.

On the other hand, the logistics of this also seems like a nightmare. In the case of the Nashville video, the cops rolled in, spotted the shooter, and gunned them down immediately. Great police work... But what if you have teachers strolling the halls trying to take out the shooter. Now you have cops rolling in ready to take out the active shooter. How do you prevent friendly fire in this circumstance?
