Buc-ees offers no showers or wash jobs or truck service, hell, they don't want 18 wheelers in their lots.

Buc-ees is not meant to appeal to those who need a "real truck stop".

You cannot be this stupid, are you?

Perhaps your real anger isn't with Buc-ees, but rather Love / Pilot / Flying J who do seem to be expanding like crazy and buying out / shutting down the independent truck stops.

Just in the last few years on a short stretch of I-59, the chains have bought out an independent shot in Pearl River, opened a new stop in Poplarville, and now have a new shop in Nicholson. That's 3 stops in about a 35 mile range

Maybe if your stupid arse read and understood the comments before running your ignorant dick sucker.

I said the concept (the store part) was a remake of the 80s truckstops. You could buy everything in them you can get at a Buc-ees...and more

So, maybe the best coarse of action here, is for you to shut your uninformed, ignorant, Loserana mouth.

I swear, I used to think Bammer hicks were stupid. You fricking swamp hicks have to be the stupiest people in the damn nation.

Ive bolded everything in your statement that isnt true here:

quote:

My brother has lived there about 30 years and somewhat likes the mayor but he said he really nickels and dimes the citizens there. Says he pushes hard for big chains and the small mom and pop restaurants really struggle there. The small town feel is leaving like a lot of towns that size. Says just about every corner in Ruston cheap looking apartments are being thrown up. City streets are awful, power goes out daily, trash pickup went from twice a week to once. Sales tax according to him is highest in the state. Sales tax will be increased in the Bucee’s district yet city will not receive any of it. He says new ball park is only open to public certain hours, not like ball parks of the past kids or a dad and son can go play in whenever they want. He and I know his neighbors, and some friends feel the mayor there is more concerned with visitors to Ruston than the actual citizens. I don’t know but saying all that, he still votes for him. Said light/power, water dept are all bare minimum and they are of no help. He was telling me earlier this year a woman set a car on fire, they called police before she set it on fire and fire dept nor police dept were able to respond because they were too backed up on calls. Basically neighbors ran her off and got water hoses out, but car just eventually exploded and finally went out on its own. I can’t imagine the work load a place like Bucee’s can add to first responders and other city workers. Will be interesting, especially since according to him (city worker himself) none of the departments can hire anyone

quote:

2) Buccee’s is keeping the sales tax, the newspaper has said so

This is what you actually said:

quote:

Sales tax will be increased in the Buccee’s district yet city will not receive any of it

Buccees is zoned in an area that Ruston and Monroe took advantage of a long time ago, like back in the late 80s early 90s.

quote:

According to Walker, the tax incremental tax district runs parallel along I-20 and the state receives 4.5 percent sales tax for any businesses located within that footprint. The state then in turn sends back 40 percent of that total (1.78 percent) that Ruston can use for work only within that tax incremental district footprint (roads, bridges, water, sewer, electricity).

Lincoln Journal

quote:

4) the roads are shite, granted that’s Louisiana

Agreed but Ruston is always working on newer roads (the last one being completed was Monroe street and this was done with fed grant money). That is the very definition of NOT nickel and diming the citizens.

quote:

Maybe he’s lying about staffing of city employees, small town feel, mom and pops shutting down, maybe there really aren’t chains popping up all over?

There werent a ton of mom and pop places here to begin with so its not like big chains are running off the smaller mom and pop places. Log Cabin probably does better than any big name chain here. Ponchatoulas probably holds their own too.

You also said that he told you this and none of this is true:

quote:

Says just about every corner in Ruston cheap looking apartments are being thrown up.

quote:

power goes out daily

quote:

Said light/power, water dept are all bare minimum and they are of no help

no the city is not hiring in December. It probably has a lot to do with the City of Ruston giving a one percent cost of living increase to go on top of the minimum hourly rate for city workers at $15.43 per hour (which happens to be a 50% increase in the a last 6 years). Its pretty impressive (to me) that any mayor was able to do that for his employees and stay within budget. Ill also say thanks to your brother for working for the city as I have had no issues in a long time and when I have, they were handled very quickly. So thanks to him.

quote:

Sales tax according to him is highest in the state.

News Sales Tax

quote:

According to the study, the lowest sales tax rate in Louisiana is 4.45% in four cities that do not levy a local sales tax, Creole, Cameron, Grand Chenier and Hackberry. The highest sales tax is 12.95% in two cities, Monroe and Sterlington.

And thats just from a quick Google search.

I dont think your bother is being malicious (maybe he is). He is the only one nickle and diming though. And that's fine. That this opinion. But thats all it is.

yeah, it makes sense to put one on I20 in Louisiana....you can make it to from Ruston to the Loxley Al or the Birmingham Al locations in about 400 miles..most newer cars have a range of that.

So in a few years you can make it from Dallas/Fort worth to the beaches of west Florida or to Atalanta and only stop at Buc-ee's. The one in Terrell then the one in Ruston and then the one in Loxley Al or Birmingham. If they put one in Mississippi on I20 that would make it so you didn't have to go about 400 miles.

And thats just from a quick Google searc

LINK

This site shows Ruston at 12.2% so maybe Monroe and sterlington have moved up recently? Or vary well could be he is just wrong

As far as sales tax from Bucee’s the papers were saying the city portion of the sales tax will not go to the city. That area the city portion will be raised just like the Hobby Lobby area was raised compared to rest of the city. I’m sure the state will receive their portion but it was clear according to the news the city will not for 25 years.

I’ll concede the nickel and diming and mom and pops. You live there and would know more than myself. As far as woman setting car on fire here’s the thing. My brother does a lot of barbecues and cookouts and has many neighbors and friends come over. There were at least 3-4 people telling me about the story who were all there.

There are quite a few new apartments, he lives not far from La Tech stadium but there are a lot of new apartments that aren’t on campus that have been built. We usually go riding around when I go visit and he’s shown me. Maybe me saying they are crappy was wrong of me. Living in Shreveport I’m use to new, nice apartments being ghetto in 10 years, that’s my fault. The small town feel may just be his perspective living there almost 30 years. He likes it there though and I enjoy visiting. Thought about moving there when I retire but gonna go the north Arkansas route more than likely.

I appreciate your detailed reply though. Ruston is a great town. I wasn’t meaning to bash Ruston or the mayor but rereading my post it sure came out like I did. Seems mayor there has done well.

And to add my link may even be wrong or my eyes are fooling me. Click on Ruston and it shows 10.45% but in initial link 12.2. Maybe I’ve typed out too much on this phone and reading I’m cross eyed or don’t understand what I’m reading

Also if I’m wrong about them raising sales tax in that area Bucee’s is being built and city not receiving any than I concede that argument and apologize for even mentioning it

I swear some of the Buccees badgers have never been in a gas station in La or Ms. 90% of them are total shite holes. On a good day you might find a restroom that doesn’t have graffiti, shite water on the floor, or a somewhat clean toilet. And then of course the rude arse lazy cashiers is a given most of the time

This is a demographics problem that will never change. Only get worse because these types aren’t leaving the state at the rates that decent people are leaving.

The biggest brain drain epidemic in Louisiana is the middle class. It was already damn near non existent then you give them no choice but to leave.

The rich don’t care. They don’t use public schools. They don’t mingle with the public very often in general. They have their circles and stay in them. The state caters to ignorance and caters to the poors. Just sad honestly but boils down to demographics
