that the modern church has to rely on over-the-top theatrics

there is definitely a competition among churches in my area to see who can have the best "revues," the coolest bands, vocalists, skits, plays, etc., not much in the way of a service or sermon, everything is choreographed and perfectly timed to the second so they can usher one group out and the next one in immediately

This isn't a church service were they were asking for donations?

An actual show they spent alot of money on then sold tickets to the public in order to raise more money??

Not seeing the issue here

Whenever I see a place like that, I ask myself, "what would jesus think about this church?

Jesus would be appalled that he is idolized and worshipped as well as by the fact that a religion was created in his name.

The first one. I grew up in a small town and the only thing we had that was extra was an organ player.

We’ll hate to bust your bubble but the Catholic Church will often times host seminars and talks with national Catholic guests for a fee. May not be as high and entry cost or be as elaborate with flying entertainers but to say that they do not utilize their spaces for paid events is not accurate.

I tend to agree with others in this that they are using their church space to host an event that ultimately helps them raise funds. Would I attend, no but these churches are not blessed and sacred places of worship that house Saint relics or the Body of Christ as a Catholic Church does and I do not see them as desecrating the building even if they did. They are buildings that can be used as they please.

What's the issue here, extravagance? If their congregation paid for it, and was ok with it, I don't see the issue.

It looks like a pretty fun, Christmas show.

Wouldn't have an issue with it either if they stopped being treated differently than other clubs and businesses. Pay some taxes and follow the same rules.

How is paying for a ticket to this different than any other overpriced concert? I probably paid more for LSU season tickets to see a worse product.

You can also go to happy hour at the Vatican and wander around wine drunk.

My FIL has a cousin that goes to this church. Last year the cousin took him and his wife to this spectacle and he enjoyed it so much he thought our girls would enjoy it this year. So, begrudgingly, we went to this sparkly, loud, Church de Soleil extravaganza. My wife and I along with another guy on our row were just sitting there like this the whole time.

The youngest fell asleep.
The eight year old said the live camels were cool. That’s about all the reaction poor Pap got.
