Should be a resignation.

Instead, it will be a presser claiming character assassination of himself and the LPSO.

Ard:. Did you molest a young teen?

We did a verbal investigation & concluded there was no crime committed.

Kids were raped, and filmed while they were being raped...and Ard is more worried about the optics of he said she said from the BRPD officer back in 2014

If there was ever a case for term limits, it is small-town sheriffs.

They have an outsized since of importance and cover up crap on the reg. Their goofy deputies are right there with them.

50 or so years ago my county had term limits of 8 years iirc. So, in the election after the sheriff's term was up, his wife ran and generally won. "Served" one term and then the actual sheriff ran again.

Or make them an appointed position answerable to a parish president and parish council. Parish president nominates and council confirms.

Elections for sheriff are good in theory but they have not worked out practically well and Jason Ard is a worst case scenario here.

And then term limits for Parish presidents so the same sheriff isn't in office forever.

I think Strain trumps Ard, for worst case, but I agree with your other points.

People have to vote their sorry asses out.

Anyone want to summarize this thread for me, I’m not reading 58 pages.

Hopefully these disgusting people are held accountable and they were stopped before they hurt too many kids

- Two people participated in disturbing, sickening behavior.

- Perkins was a very dirty cop.

- Jason Ard is struggling to save face.

The only real accountability a sheriff faces is a few days of voting in October every four years and that's only if they have credible, serious and legit opposition running against them.

A lot of sheriffs run unopposed or their challengers are absolutely no threat to win.

Jason Ard wasn't even on the ballot this year because nobody ran against him and thus he was reelected by default.

Sheriffs in Louisiana are an untouchable fiefdom unto themselves and what we're seeing with Jason Ard right now is sadly a result from that.

you dont just decide one day to run for a suburban sheriff position...you wait your turn.

legitimate opposition is bought off or intimidated into submission

Then you have something like happened here in WI. A police chief was appointed AFTER he had left the scene of a drunken accident, hide at his parents, had parents refuse to open the door, and showed up the next afternoon after the booze was out of his system. Small town so everyone knew what had happened after he left the saloon absolutely smashed.

Appointed by the police commission anyway.

Now he's up on charges of four counts of sexual assault (just 4th degree as he's a cop) and misdemeanor theft of something movable.
