We recently moved to Louisiana and I saw a post from 3 yrs ago regarding live edge wood slabs but can't figure out how to message people.

We live in Covington. Does anyone know where I can find live edge wood slabs near here? I'm hoping to make a tv stand.

Damn, dude... you're really asking for it aren't you?

Just Google lumber yards near you and give them a call and ask if they sell slabs.

Lumber yards.

Southern Arch in Belle Chasse might have reclaimed or other specialty stuff if you're looking for that. Last time I was there they had a massive slab of cypress they were making into a table.

Look up real sinker cypress on Facebook. They are in Houma. I have picked up from them before. Great prices

Facebook martketplace is full of them. Cheaper than a lumber yard as well.

Check out a lumber recycler in Madisonville. They deal in live edge material.

Address is 451 La. 22

Phone number is 985-960-3440

Close to you, but I'm betting it won't be cheap.

Bought an 8’ long live edge cypress slab for a fireplace mantel from them. Not cheap, but cheaper than the lumber place in pontchatoula.

This is "hunting camp" level of trashy. Live edge came and went quickly, thank god.

If you are going to pray at the alter of Chip and Joanna you're better off with shiplap. Live edge won't fly outside of Waco.

From Twin Peaks to the Davidian Compound you'd be golden. But you're in Louisiana, start acting like it.

What about a live edge bar top on an outdoor kitchen? Y’all consider that trashy? I kinda like it

If you're a Platinum TD Member, you can contact them via telepathy. It's a pretty cool feature but probably not worth the extry money.

Interior designer friend of mine just put a live edge floating bathroom sink into a 2 million dollar mansion

Watch out for guys on Facebook or Craigslist with small backyard mills. Alot of what they sale isn't dried. Unless you kiln dry it properly, it takes about two years to air dry. If you go through a hardwood dealer, generally everything they sale is kiln dried and ready to go.

Notro,

Very useful and insightful post you have there. It is quite telling. I call that living for here. There are a few nice areas but not very many within an hour of where I'm going to be working. Mandeville seems nice, but all the houses in our price range of 225k or so needed too much work. We will move again in 4 years amd quite frankly I didn't want to sink a ton of money into an old house. So we bought a new house. Unfortunately, La is ranked at the very bottom for schools so no matter where we moved here we were going to have to supplement our children's education just so they don't fall behind.
