Popocatépetl is an active volcano in central Mexico. Standing at about 5,426 meters (17,802 feet) tall, it is the second-highest peak in the country. Located about 70 kilometers (45 miles) southeast of Mexico City, people often call it "El Popo" or "Don Goyo". Its name means "Smoking Mountain" in the old Aztec language. [

Looks like a bunch of smoke, when I hear erupting I want to see lava.

Popo erupts about every week
Makes getting flights into Mexico City a pain in the arse sometimes.

Mt Etna on Sicily has been doing some pretty cool effusive eruptions recently. Cool video of it at night.

Rainier Mountaineering used to run trips to Mexico where you could climb the three big volcanos in about two weeks. They've closed Popo and you can only climb the other two now.

I climbed Popo back in the early 90s before they closed it to the public. It was a rumbling, smoky climb even back then.

Not only do they pump out CO2, but they also melt glaciers.
quote:
Up until the late 1990s, Popocatépetl was one of the few mountains in Mexico tall enough to hold permanent glaciers. However, the rise in its active eruptive phase completely wiped them out by 2001. The continuous internal thermal heat from magma conduits, hot volcanic gases venting up to the surface, and repeated blankets of hot ash melted the glaciers from both the top and the bottom.

If Popo goes off bigly, we’ll see our Southern border over run w/ millions fleeing. Possible killer tsunami in the GOM.

I've seen bigger eruptions in the quad
