We have a jackass at our workplace that insists on listening to stand up comedy routines on his phone in the lunchroom without headphones. The comics in the videos sometimes drop fbombs and racial comments.
Some people have zero self awareness.

Even if it were a reasonable volume it would be okay. But it's not. To top it all off he desk drums with pens to whichever song. I asked him if he wanted to start a rock band but he's in his late 40's and didn't find it too funny.

I play my music at a level that can just barely be heard outside my office. I like to keep people on their toes so I stick to NWA, Boosie, Lil Wayne, Snoop, Dre, etc

Jokes on you, I do have my own office. Even with the door closed I can still hear

Hit back with some polka or Irish dance music.

I wear my Bose noise cancelling headphones all day and I can hear everything I need to hear.

My boss listens to it in his office, but I can rarely hear it. I listen, but on headphones.

life sucks in the secretarial pool.
Glad I have my own office. Soundgarden on Pandora right now. Alice in Chains before that. You'd probably be in tears.

I wear headphones 90% of the time, even though I have my own office. My office is fairly small so it doesn't take much noise to make it out unless I close my door, which I generally don't unless I'm on the phone. Plus there's several very loud talkers in my group, so I have noise canceling headphones
Sometimes there's too much going on and I have to keep taking my headphones off to talk to someone or people keep coming into my office for something, and I will switch the sound over to my speakers at a low volume and put something fairly easy listening on.

I just run my radio on 98.1 at a low level, no one bitches.
To the contrary, I've had people come in and get a little pissy along the lines of "I wish I could stream music at work, must be nice to work in IT". I never get tired of telling them how having so many people streaming would slow our internet access so that's why I am using a regular, old radio as I point to my radio.
Every single one of those making the statement about streaming has been women.

Sometimes I read these threads add wonder what it's like to work in a cubicle.
I imagine it's like the boring office episodes.

I can see the logic. I think there is probably that perception in professional environments.
But I do it anyway. At least with wireless ear buds it is now a lot less obvious for anyone passing by.
