Outside of the public and private schools not playing each other in the playoffs can someone tell me what all of the gotdam drama is about?

i'd imagine a bunch of shite that has nothing to do with the kids.

Big fight over the lack of transgender locker rooms

I don't get it but I do know people that take high school sports way too seriously so I understand why it's happening.

Something about illegal cigar purchases using LHSAA funds.

The top executive called the LHSAA a "dumpster fire." He then emailed/posted a picture of an actual dumpster fire to emphasize his point. The association got mad because they are, in fact, a figurative dumpster fire.

They voted to split all the sports instead of just football. That lead Bonine to state the LHSAA is a dumpster fire, which is true. They got pissy and tried to buy him out. They don't have the money to do so.

Wanting everyone getting a trophy and the adults are the ones acting like kids. Principles worrying about something other than grades which our state continues to be sub par in. Graduating only about 3 out of 4 kids

Actually... He gave a PowerPoint presentation at the annual US High School Athletic Association Convention (or whatever the official name is for the association of those groups) and he was asked to speak about the issues ongoing in LA. The stuff happening here between private and public schools is expected to have an effect on the rest of the US so they are very interested in how it is going. He gave the presentation and, on the last slide, had a picture of a dumpster on fire and said "the whole thing is a dumpster fire." It was a well-intentioned joke about the entire situation.
Someone who apparently doesn't like him very much got a copy of the presentation and sent it to the media. Just proving that you can't say or do shite anymore without expecting some asshat to rat you out and for it to go viral.
I don't necessarily like this guy but he is getting screwed on this one.

Hired Bonine to fix the association. He came in heard opinions and made a plan. The prinicpals wanted his plan to be their plan and didn't take the advice that he was brought in to give. They then get upset when he basically said he wouldn't have come if he had known that his advice wouldn't be seriously considered. They met in a special session to buy him out. They discover that they need 500k to do so, look in their money and they only have 3k. Now they try to save face, but sponsors are already chucking deuces with more to follow.

Schools can go to shite real quick when recruiting for athletic talent instead of emphasizing academics...

First split vote passed cost Henderson his job bc he was seen as not doing enough to stop it.
Bonine was unable to prevent the split in additional sports and then said the situation is a dumpster fire. His job was on the line until yesterday.
Fact is that the association is run by principals. They vote the same way individuals vote on stuff. "How will it affect our school" has a higher priority than "How will it impact the association"
The kids will get to play their sports. I hate how people say we are "forgetting the kids"...the kids just want to play ball and no one is robbing them of that right. If anything the private schools will eventually diminish the overall experience for the kids by declaring an independent association thereby disallowing public/private competition in the regular season.
Private schools are pissed because they have more competition for titles in their divisions than in pre-split years. They used to be spread over 5-6 divs, now they are spread over 3.
Fact is that private schools have won a significantly higher number of state titles due to the imbalance created by allowing students from entire regions to play for one school rather than requiring athletes compete at a school in their attendance zones.
Public schools are tired of seeing talented kids in their attendance zones go to private schools for free. Especially when the public schools have no way of (legally) pulling kids into their school to play for them.

That's right, the best way to address the concerns expressed by 60% of your membership is to make fun of them by trivializing the issue.

Was the option ever discussed to acctually enforce the rules that caused the problem rather than making a split? Maybe take a real look at John Curtis and Evangel?

i thought i read that over the past 7 years (starting pre split) the top 5 classes (35 championships) had a total of 18 public school champs and 17 private school champs
