It always worries me when a Southern city with a large amount of black-on-black crime elects an African-American mayor. My concern is that they are hesitant to crack down on this form of crime as it may make them appear to be insensitive to their primary constituency. Note this has nothing to do with said mayor's race or ability. I'd feel the same way about a Sicilian mayor expected to crack down on Sicilian crime. Politicians are known for focusing first and foremost on getting re-elected and, let's face it, cracking down on African-American crime would be a sure way for an African-American mayor to lose.
