there is a little truth in that.... there were a metric shite tone of what people would cam 'redneck' types that moved to BR from mainly MS but also AL and Tx in this time period to erect (teeheehee) plants and man them..... don't quote me on this but BR went from a sleepy capital like Montgomery and and tripled+ in size.

That's why you probably have a higher percentage of non-Cajuns than any other city in SLa... that's what I've understood at least

Nebraska isn't all that flat. It's definitely less flat than LA.

And the culcha and traffic problems make me laugh. I enjoyed it there so it's definitely not a knock on the city. Hell, Lincoln has plenty of talent too

I worked in NBR for years. It'll never change. You can only hope they stay in NBR.

It is but that statement is relative to hitting absolute rock bottom circa 2011.

Part of it is, but parts, especially west and southwest of downtown might as well be on Chicago's southside.

Well, maybe not quite that bad, but it's shitty there.

Was in Avondale last weekend. Kind of a weird scene. But definitely gentrifying -- which I guess is good given the context.

I present to you Birmingham, AL:

72 murders as of 9/7

Population: 212,000

Solid choice, but Jackson is not only the most hopeless city in America, it's likely the most violent. There are like 10 corpses in the State Medical Examiner's office that are under suspicious death filing right now. There's no telling how many are murdered in Jackson. City population is down to about 168K from 200+K in the 1980's.

Trump visits that city all the time doesn't he?

He and Pence? Thats his responsibility. he needs to clean up the capital city of a state that he won

It always worries me when a Southern city with a large amount of black-on-black crime elects an African-American mayor. My concern is that they are hesitant to crack down on this form of crime as it may make them appear to be insensitive to their primary constituency. Note this has nothing to do with said mayor's race or ability. I'd feel the same way about a Sicilian mayor expected to crack down on Sicilian crime. Politicians are known for focusing first and foremost on getting re-elected and, let's face it, cracking down on African-American crime would be a sure way for an African-American mayor to lose.

Interesting points; I think all people want to feel safe in their cities. But how do you clean it up? Is it discriminatory law and order? Or is through more community policing, better schools, better public resources, better job training, more/better job opportunities?

We are currently trying to make our prisons less crowded; it would be backwards to start filling them up again (unless its very serious crimes/capital offenses)

Overall its not bad, I think that we havent had a single murder for 2017

Sounds like an improvement from Dr. Tom's days of Lawrence Phillips dragging white women down stairs and stuffing them in mailboxes.

How is it the presidents responsibility to clean up cities like NOLA and BR when they have guys like Mitch and Gravy who do all they can to undermine law enforcement?

He's a fraud. He acts like he's all down with the struggle when he's just a rich guy who went to Tulane IIRC.
