Depends on how forcefully he grabs the facemask

Started coaching in a middle school late 80’s and after two years moved to high school. I never grabbed a middle school kids facemask nor cussed them. High school age did it more than I should looking back but I don’t have a problem with it at the high school level. As a principal the last few years at a high school I just tell my coaches don’t push them, say “ you” as in “you SOB. “ But if they just grab the facemask and cuss a little I don’t say anything.
Also depends on what type of kid you have. Lower income kids seem to not have a problem as much as upper class kids

When I coached I just made kids run and run and run if they screwed up. If they really pissed me off I would bring a coloring book and crayons and make them color during the entire practice. Never had the need to grab facemasks or cuss.

My 7th grader made first team all conference tonight, and offensive player of the year from his team. Missed 1/2 the season though. Goes Friday for the all clear to play sports again.

Before we became a land of wusses that was as common as could be. If a player wasn't hustling at practice I've seen coaches sprint 40 yards long jump onto the poor bastard's arse while yelling at him to get suck it up and do his job.
60's and 70's that was everyday shite and parents supported it.

He'll know exactly what time he received his award thanks to your luxury watch.

I responded to a dad who has a 7th grader playing QB...my boy got ‘yelled at’ on every play...well until he got hurt. Still earned all conference, only offensive player on his team, based on his play, which is pretty good for never playing a down of football before...the ceremony was last night.
Threads rarely stay exactly on topic after 4 pages, I was fairly close. My son found the tone of football coaches MUCH different than soccer, but you can also get very hurt out there so its likely warranted.

He makes a mistake in the game and the coach is cursing at him and grabs his facemask. Do you have an issue with it or do you just say that's just part of football???
What mistake did he make? Did he miss a block/drop a catch/just didn’t perform as well as he should have or did he blatantly ignore the coaches play call/purposely defy the coach?
There is a difference but either way I’m at minimum have a talk with the coach and seeing what was going on

Tell little Braxlynn to brush it off and then coddle him so that he's useless for the rest of his life and a tax burden for my kid.

I played soccer, so I couldn't understand my Hispanic coach when he cursed at us.

i was tough on my son. now, he's a fricking man. when he was a freshman, he got punished at school. i told the coach to call me when my son puked after running after practice. then, i'd pick him up.

My kids won't ever play that sport. I'll leave that to other idiots that want to physically destroy their bodies.

That one is debatable. How bad was the mistake?
Here's one a little more cut-and-dried... My nephew was on the front line for their receiving team. The only coaching they've had twas to turn completely around and run full-bore down the field to wherever the ball lands. Since they weren't coached to watch the ball, they didn't. The result one night from a bad kick was that the ball went straight across the field and hit my nephew square in the arse. He tried to turn around and get back to it but by that time it had bounced all the way back to the kicking team, so they recovered.
I've never seen anything like that, everyone was laughing because it was such a crazy fluke. He gets back to the sideline and the coach says "good job, you just cost us points".
To give a little background, my nephew is 15, 6'4", ~250lbs, runs the 40 in 5 flat and has good hands. He wants to play tight end but the coach won't even let him try out for it. He's put him at defensive tackle every once in a while, often he makes it into the backfield and either makes the tackle or is at least an assist (he plays varsity, not JV).
This is a guy who went out and recruited a student to play tight end who hadn't played, hadn't practiced. He started a week before school and the coach put him on first string. He's made maybe two or three catches all year (not enough to warrant how he got the position).
This is all to say that there are grade school coaches out there who are fricking morons, you'll be able to identify them through their multiple and continual mistakes. One facemask grab and a few terse words alone doesn't quite make the cut.
