I'm not talking about extreme runners like Goggins. Though if you look at his health stats, he's not currently destroying any body parts. Maybe he's just an anomaly.

quote:Oh, that poster had it in quotes so I thought he was saying Renner said it. In my prime I might have done 10 miles in any given day, but that was never an every day thing. Of course when you are younger you might run 6 miles then play some basketball for fun. Nowadays I would probably need a week recovery.
I wasn't about Renner I was talking about the poster who asked the question. Renner never said he was running 12 miles and even the "super fit" actors and stunt doubles are not running 80+ mile weeks.
80 mile weeks are pretty rare. The avg mileage week for Boston qualifiers isn't that much over 40 and it's highly unlikely that people perpetuating the myth that running is bad for your knees is hanging around the same social circles as elite distance runners.

Mostly because I don’t like to be around a bunch of self-righteous people. I have found most people who run and work out excessively to be this type of person.

Asics have always been best for me over Brooks and Saucony.

I thought both of Goggin's legs are shot from all of his running. Knees and hips are destroyed from the miles. I could be wrong though.

This is why I run. It helps clear the stress out. I'm hooked on the dopamine, too. I swear when I run in the morning I walk faster the rest of the day.

Is he just recycling content on social media? I admittedly haven't dug that deep into it, other than reading what's been out there on him for years now. I have no desire to be an ultra-runner, I think, as with many things in life, the key is moderation.

People who continually seek self improvement and growth often appear to be self-righteous to those who don't. Fact is, runners don't think about non runners as much as non-runners think they do. People generally run so they can be better than the person they would be if they didn't run but people think they're running to be better than them.

I've met that guy before and he is a giant douche. He seems like the most fake person I've ever met and he is milking his accident for profit.
frick that makeup artist.

Maaaan you weren’t running anyway.
Need to get new Brooks shoes. Great ad.

I'm always amazed at how little the general public is doing to actually take care of themselves. I hope I live to see the day when doctors are managing patients to their VO2 score instead of questionable medications and risky procedures.

Doesn't he run 50 to 100 miles per week? Doesn't really make sense to write off running because Goggins wrecked his knees taking it to an extreme.

Yeah no doubt they make a comfortable shoe, but the other brands have been far more innovative in the past several years leaving brooks behind…at least in the midsole performance category of running shoes. There are signs however that brooks is starting to be a bit more innovative.
I like brooks, but haven’t considered them for several years, but they have a few newer models that I might be interested in.

quote:You could not have articulated this any better.
I work in an office and have 3 kids. I run. And I cross train. I'm at the gym, on the pavement, or in the pool 4-6 days a week.
I do it to live a longer, better, healthier life for my family. And if I should ever need to protect my family, or handle a stressful situation involving them, I am in a much better position to do so. I also believe that it makes me more productive at work.
The question should be for those that don't: why don't you?
I would add that I like to stay in competition with myself, to be better than I was the previous week, month, year is also one of the driving factors for me. I've got two young kids and being able to run around with them and not get tired, to be able to throw them in the air, to ride the bike with them, is so fulfilling. I was 265# at 5'11 when I was 25. Unresolved depression, a potential teensy tiny drinking problem, and extremely poor eating habits towards the end of college had caught up with me. After working hard and losing weight, I've been 190# (give or take) since I was 27. I'm forever chasing the high of bettering myself physically, and it's a constant reward.
