After the first half of the 1800s the UK was already courting the US for eventual support in European conflicts.

There were plenty of international observers watching the battles during too. Mechanized warfare was a new thing to be witnessed, studied, and improved upon.

The SE US has more advantages than anywhere else in the country. Extremely fertile farming land. Major sea ports. The union saw value in the region. To say we would have struggled as an independent country is laughable.

The sole cause of the civil war was corrupt politics. Politicians putting their own self interests above country. Funny how these assholes never learn.
Kill 700,000 citizens and these idiots are still on the same path.

It’s an OT favorite topic. Vietnam is a favorite as well when it comes to military history.

It's hilarious that anyone would argue that slavery was not a root cause of the Civil War or that slavery was some benevolent institution. The Confederacy was created, and seceded, to maintain its abominable slave-based economy and lifestyle. To argue otherwise is misplaced pride in carrying dead people's baggage.

And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be a position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.

All of those quotes proved to be correct. The South’s leaders were smart and honorable men, not some backwoods racists.

There’s a reason we call it the war of Northern Aggression

You are correct sir!!!

The Civil War was fought because the rich northerners were not happy that the backwards morons in the South had more money than they did. The north had industry and they were prosperous. However, the South had agriculture and they were even more prosperous due to the fact that the south had FREE LABOR!! This made the South more prosperous than the north by a large divide. The north would not let this stand. 1st came the crazy taxes, then WAR!!.

It was about economics!
Abolishing slavey was the only way to level the playing field.

My grandfather always said that the war of northern aggression was about state’s rights.

Looking back, he was ridiculously racist in almost all aspects of his life except whenever he talked about this. When I see him in hell I’ll have to ask him about it.
