Actually few thousand blacks did fight for the Confederacy. Now a majority of them were there serving their masters but they were also on the frontlines with rifles in hand fighting back

Pretty embarassing how many people want to claim that slavery wasn't even a factor.

is this where a few members of the OT shames it's members born in the Southern half of the United States or vents their own white guilt, because of decisions made a century and a half ago?
sounds fun. what could possibly go wrong?
I'm not shaming anyone. I simply feel it is absurd to glorify the efforts of the CSA by spinning the civil war into a modern context.

What???? Yes they were. What, are you trying to say they were fighting for "state's rights"? The "states rights" idea is completely wrong. The states rights argument is centered around the state's right to choose to have slavery. The states didn't want to give up slavery for economic reasons (plantation labor) and because they felt they were racially superior to slaves. Many plantations couldn't afford to pay workers to perform the work needed to harvest the product and maintain anywhere near the same profit level. GTFO with the idea they weren't fighting for slavery. idk what your teachers were teaching you... and I was educated in the south... smh
quote:
"There are few, I believe, in this enlightened age, who will not acknowledge that slavery as an institution is a moral and political evil." ~ Robert E. Lee
quote:
"All that the South has ever desired was that the Union, as established by our forefathers, should be preserved, and that the government as originally organized should be administered in purity and truth." ~ Robert E. Lee
quote:
"I have fought against the people of the North because I believed they were seeking to wrest from the South dearest rights. But I have never cherished toward them bitter or vindictive feelings. And have never seen the day when I did not pray for them." ~ Robert E. Lee
Sure seems to me that from Lee’s perspective it wasn’t about slavery.

It's super weird to me. I don't get it.

The south wanted more of the federal dollars. The north viewed the south as a producer of raw goods
True, I agree with you here. The civil war is a very complicated issue that came to boil on many issues. But the idea that it wasn't about slavery is asinine.
quote:
Keep in mind 95% of the people located in the CSA were dirt poor
I agree with you here also. However, part of this was due to the aristocratic attitude of plantation owners. This mentality still plagues southern politics to this day and hampers efforts to improve living conditions for people of lower socioeconomic classes "the good ole boy system"
quote:
I do think Lincoln had a plan to improve living conditions in the south. But that was all gone when he was killed. His murder hurt the south more than the north.
This is very true. His plan after the war was the South was not going to be punished and pillaged. When he was killed, the arse hats that wanted the South punished, pillaged everything they could and put Northerners in power. The ill feelings from this still linger. My family lost everything to carpetbaggers.

You're taking quotes from one man and applying that to an entire population with the argument every person in the south held the EXACT same belief as Lee... nope, it doesn't work like that.
Have you read about any of the arguments that happened in the halls of congress before succession? There were many factors for the Civil War... Slavery being a major one.
Furthermore, you are using a quote where Lee states slavery is a moral and political evil... in context, he is saying slavery should not be abolished and that it is necessary... and then saying Lee did not think the war was about slavery...

this quote, which was in a letter to his wife 5 years before the war, was talking about the inevitability of the war due to slavery
quote:
The views of the Pres: of the systematic & progressive efforts of certain people of the North, to interfere with & change the domestic institutions of the South, are truthfully & faithfully expressed. The consequences of their plans & purposes are also clearly Set forth, & they must also be aware, that their object is both unlawful & entirely foreign to them, their duty; for which they are irresponsible & unaccountable; & Can only be accomplished by them through the agency of a civil & servile war.
He is talking about slavery when he mentions "institutions of the South"
Here is the entire letter:

I have read some conspiracy theories that it was Lincoln rivals in the north that funded his assination. I kind of think it is plausible. No way those dumbasses got that close to him.
ETA:
And to my point. It wasn't purely a slavery issue as in freeing Africans. The corporation plantations located on the Mississippi river were in bed with the NE power brokers. The majority of AL, GA, SC, TN, etc were poor as shite, and wanted our stake. That is why you had large regions in AL that were on the union side.

There were enough Southern sympathizers in DC to support the assassination effort without involving Northerners.
Booth was a well established Southerner and probably would not have wanted to work with any Yankee.

You've got to be pretty naive to believe this. Was slavery the only reason for secession and the war? Absolutely not. But to pretend as if it wasnt a factor let alone a major one is completely naive.

I love this myth that Lincoln was some civil rights pioneer. He was just as racist as anyone in the south, preached white supremacy.
Not to mention he was a constitution hating tyrant.

Yet Alabama, Texas, and Virginia all mentioned slavery in their Ordinances of Secession. Just because 2 people say it's not about slavery doesn't make it so.
Also, who fired the first shots?

except for the whole issue of have no industry to speak of. The confederacy was starving by the end of the war, how does having slaves willingly fight magically make more food and supplies appear?

the states have no rights to legalize marijuana because the north won the war. if the south won the war then the states would have the right to legalize marijuana.
