I am libertarianish but there is a lot of truth to what you say. I read an article that in states where gambling is legalized, it tends to have a NEGATIVE economic effect on its citizens. For every dollar that produces jobs and tax revenue, it saps up about twice that.

I mean, sports betting was already legal in Mississippi. They just don't have to drive as far now.

If the "big tech" companies can protect us from scary right-wing memes, why can't they use their prerogative to keep corporate bookmakers off people's phones? Seems like a bigger deal to me.

Meh. If that is the case, they would have been "destroyed" one way or another.

I have in-laws, and a couple of relatives who are educated professionals that had never gambled in their lives until the Casinos in Shreveport opened. They quickly lost ever dollar they could access. Many times, just like alcohol, you don’t know you have a problem until you do something for the first time.

I have one question. Do you believe marijuana is a gateway drug?

I have found the sports betting is not the addictive part. Absolutely, positively do not cross over into the table games. And, if you do, play live dealer where the cards are coming out in front of you IRL. The electronic games can turn you into an addict slinging around thousands like nothing when you're loading up with your credit card.

There really is not much difference in playing options or buying crypto vs gambling these days. Guess which ones you can do daily from the comfort of home using the internet in all 50 states.

An investment in Crypto that goes down in value can later increase in value, lose on a sports bet your money is gone.

Betting is betting. Addiction to gambling is about immediate response. Having to wait an entire game would not give the reward that casino gambling gives.

Degenerates have already found a way to bet on sports if that is their thing.

This thread is some real boomer shite. As mentioned bitcoin, trading options, draft kings, fantasy football, etc. have all been around to do on your phone for years now. To act like all of a sudden sports betting is going to turn people into degenerates over those things is naive.

I really feel that the more mainstream sports gambling becomes, the more responsibly people will gamble. Gambling addiction will receive more press, treatment will become more available, friends and relatives become more familiar with the signs of what's going on.

You can't protect people from themselves, neither can the government. As with many drugs, gambling, prostitution, and any other vice under the sun, people should be free to do what they want to do as long as they understand that they own any negative consequences.

Wgaf if stupid people lose all their money? They were probably lucky to have it to start with. Let people make their own decisions
