I am 100% in favor of being able to do whatever you want to do as long as it is legal. Sports gambling in Louisiana is now legal. The people voted for it and it should be legal as they wish. Yet, I have a very big concern.

No one likes to be preached to about "Do this" or "Don't do that!" I know that I feel this way. What I want to say is .... for those about to "partake" in this new, exciting, gambling world....PLEASE, be careful and learn money management.

I worry a lot about the younger people with little experience with the consequences of poor choices and whom are prime targets for credit cards. It does not take much these days to qualify for some type of credit card with a cash advance feature. That is where your problems will start....possibly followed by borrowing from family and friends and eventually stealing. All to cover debts that you can't pay.

If I sound like DEBBIE DOWNER, then GOOD! A lot of lives have been ruined by the simple act of placing a first sports wager. I don't intend to continue to preach. Each of you will find out on your own, but I do wish you all the best of luck and hope that good decisions are made.

Meh. If that is the case, they would have been "destroyed" one way or another.

Casinos have been open to the exact same crowd for a very long time. This will get more people interested but a degenerate will always find a way. It’s not my fault others have no self control that they need the government to tell them what they can and can’t do.

I don't care of people gamble their disposable income, but, most American's have no concept of personal responsibility. Gamble your money, and the govt will give you more.

Most people who I know of that got into trouble were betting with bookies who you did not have to give cash to first. At least at the casino you can’t bet what you don’t have.

Nope. Not a single word.

I WILL be available to those that need help after they have developed a gambling addiction that has put them on the ledge.

I won't be able to FIX their problem, but I can listen to them and help them find the help they will need.

Why would betting on sports be any different than video poker or casinos that have been open for almost 20 years in Louisiana??? Don’t agree with your logic.

I ended up paying the bookie like $7,000 back in 2014. I was a single guy making good money so it wasn’t a big deal, but if I would have bought $7k in Bitcoin instead I’d have like a gazillion dollars right now.

How’s the weather up there? Pretty decent on that pedestal you’ve pulled out for yourself?

Dealing with a family member with a crippling sports betting addiction right now. It’s so hard to find help for them even after completing taking control of their finances. There is very little help for this compared to drugs and alcohol.

You have to actually DRIVE to a Casino in Louisiana.

The Sports Gambling Apps are what concern me the most. You don't have to leave your lounge chair to ruin you life.

Keep preaching, Art Schlichter.

There will be people who get themselves in trouble with this.

I can agree with this especially when it’s tied to a credit card. I can see your point.

Don't sell the majority short most people have an ability to cope with moderation

There are a ton of support structures in place for those who can't

But the fact you would take the time to post this shows you care about your fellow poster for that ....
