Jones Walker is probably the highest rates in LA and probably top out around $900.
Some Big Law has gotten over $1000 for associates. OP mentioned NYC, Susman, and Quinn have partners billed at over $4000 an hour.

That’s when title lawyers charged by the page. You would hit a long mortgage in the abstract and make more than that.

I think La. courts get a bad rap because it's easy to squeeze out a soft tissue $10-15k settlement, and that's the kind of case that's most directly visible to Joe sixpack. But that's nothing in the grand scheme of things.

There’s a bunch of Louisiana based firms with some older partners around $700-900. Mostly Phelps, Adams & Reese, Kean Miller, Taylor Porter, Jones Walker, Fishman, Baker Donelson. As for $1k plus, I’m sure there’s a few folks in New Orleans offices of New York firms who are into the thousand range.

Had a case in federal court where I was appointed the Special Master to administer a settlement payout. The New York lawyer on one side was billing at $1200 per hour.

Lawyers are grossly overpaid. Half may be close to incompetent too. Another 20% are average, at best.

I know a Louisiana attorney who specializes in securities law- - she bills $1,000 per hour- - compared to the $3k per hour New York specialist bill
30 year-old me would have been seriously interested in putting up with NYC (and I realize there’s some additional overhead costs) for 3X return for a couple of years for doing the same exact work.
Twice (+) me that age me now wouldn’t even consider it.

I'd have to guess that an Intellectual Property attorney (which requires an additional license beyond the state bar law license) could be up there. Bu the big firms who have IP lawyers likely have the IP lawyers in other offices across the country in bigger cities than New Orleans.
A criminal defense attorney could get close in a federal complex white collar case. (Does Louisiana allow for flat fees in criminal cases?)
Personal Injury attorneys work on contingency vs hourly rate but I'd be plenty have made over $1,000.00 an hour on cases that were quick policy limit settlements.
