They need to buy a small squadron of drones for after storms and just fly em around and get footage.
Good friend of mine has a drone company that does plant inspections, they got into town for jobs at daylight. He said it’s been a completed shite show

Do we have the actual storm surge numbers? And what ultimately kept it from being as bad as they thought?

My house is relatively in harmed! God I’m so thankful. I’m praying the rest of y’all come hone and find the same.
That’s great news. Just got video conformation from one of my daughters friends... showed that I might have not even lost a shingle (just got my roof done last month... might have saved my house). Water oak in my backyard fell ( strangely didn’t uproot, broke off and left a stump), but didn’t hit anyone’s house. I’m extremely relieved, but my brothers house didn’t fair so well on Sallier, part of his roof came off and rained inside, so it tempers my happiness.
Still, I’m extremely thankful about my house and more importantly about all of our lives.

Saint Pats is in bad shape. Roof is busted. Walkway between hospital and garage is ripped up. Front end is torn all up.
No running water. Backup generator running but hot as hell in there.
Likely going to have a tough time getting back up and running.

Any word on the people that stayed in Cameron?
Posted on 8/27/20 at 12:43 pm to cfish140
I was wondering the same
also if anyone had made it down there with camera, drone etc. to survey what is likely to be an awful situation

I’ve got more shingles missing off that coop Than off my roof. It’s a freaking miracle.

When she wasn't trying to get smashed by Cantore,
Willing to bet that has happened many times.
Sad thing about last night, that rain jacket covered up the goods.

If you were watching last night Abrams spent all night trying to get Cantore to come over to her hotel. The weather-channel on air crew orgy may still be going on.
Lol she said it once.

We have a fair bit of info, especially for LC and Cameron. It's the reports from Grand Chenier and Pecan Island I'm still looking for. That area probably should have gotten the worst of it.
What saved LC was the path of the storm. Cameron and a direct hit into LC means the winds didn't have a south component until the backside. The wind was actually working to push back against the surge for a good bit of the evening around LC. If you got stuck where the wind was mostly out of the south farther east, I suspect that will be where the surge numbers could have verified.
Another factor working in the favor of lower surge was this wasn't a strong storm for long. Surge builds up momentum over time from the wind pushing on it.
Compare it to Ike. Weaker winds with Ike but a huge windfield and was a mature hurricane all the way across the gulf and just kept pushing water. Laura spent about 24 hours as a hurricane over water and had a smaller windfield. Sandy shows this well too. Was rocking barely hurricane winds to TS winds at landfall but over a huge area. The surge was enormous as a result.

Good to hear.
Any word from the Maplewood area? I remember those big trees caused plenty damage during Rita and there are many still standing.
