approach angle. didnt come in at the direction they were expecting which would have brought the extreme surge

20 miles is well within the margin of error for a 24-hour forecast, but it makes a huge difference in the conditions a particular location experiences. All of the warnings for storm surge were for the worst-case path and strength as they have to be. The strength was there; the path wasn't.

yes it barely missed going right up calcasieu lake.
in fact the strongest winds were out of the north across the estuary which saved the area from the deepest surge push

very fortunate happenstance

Over 600,000 Louisiana customers without power. And that is with only a few scattered outages in the two main population centers of BR and NOLA.

Many parishes are 80 to 90+% out.

Same thing was said 15 years ago after Katrina and Rita. As long as we don't a weak insurance commissioner we will be OK. After Katrina and Rita when companies threatened to pull out the IC at the time bent over and took it.

Prien Lake Park area? Is it passable? Destroyed?
I looked down the street when I was passing. Road is completely blocked before the park.

Why is her Cameron footage focused on a metal building? Of course that is damaged.

Heads up in NOLA...the tail of Laura could cause some street flooding issues - it doesn't take much.

Getting some wind again in BR, it died down for a bit. Is this the end of it for the day? I saw in the radar earlier the “tail” of the hurricane still needed to come ashore.
