at what Hurricane Michael did when it tracked inland over Florida and Georgia

Anyone who has driven I-10 since then can testify to that. 2’ diameter pine trees snapped off at the base as far inland as Marianna.

This is Looking like a guaranteed 5 upon landfall.

Fox 8 David Bernard just reported 153 mph at the eyewall

Thought NHC started giving updates more often this close to landfall?

Only position updates, not wind speed.

We didn’t flood for Rita or 2016 floods. So not really?

JBE will fearmonger you into saying this storm should be a Cat 6 if it meant getting him more federal money for his own pockets.

It's bad stuff. Warming and drying of the eye is a sign that it could still be strengthening but need recon to confirm.

Initial recon data seems to indicate it is pushing Cat 5, which corresponds to the drying and warming eye seen on satellite images.

If they find 153 they'll round it up to 155 for the next advisory.

1 mph away from cat 5 but we gotta get to 160 since they round to the 0/5.

I'm going to state an unpopular opinion....
It's moving NORTH and landfall will be at Creole.

I fully expect Lafayette to get 70 mph gusts

I'm being conservative with the 150.

What kinda boat do you have manned in Sabine pass right now

A 300x105' derrick barge. Yeah we have a handful of essential people on it. It can take this no issue but it will be a wild night.

Lafayette will get more than that if it continues going due north.

It will be interesting to hear the answer as to how the intensity forecast was so woefully off
