I bought one about a year ago. Total lifesaver. I just crank it up and I can run extension cords to my deep freeze, refrigerator, a couple of lights and phone chargers and even run DirecTV. Besides the AC, it's hard to know the power is out. I also like that I can leave it running all night and it only use about half a tank of gas.

Get a couple Predator generators at Harbor Freight for emergencies

If you have a family /children who depend on you to take care of them in emergencies, don't depend on a Harbor Freight product to help you help them.

Go with a Honda or a Generac.

I've heard lots of great things about the Predator brand but personally, as someone who has never had a single damn thing from Harbor Freight last, I wouldn't buy one of theirs. That's just me.

That's awesome. I saw a guy down the street put one in last weekend. I was a little jealous.

I'm in Shreveport. Should I put much stock into the last couple runs of the Euro? 90-100 mph gusts. The GFS/NHC winds of 50-70 don't bother me but getting up into triple digits puckers the ole butthole.

They work just fine, the ones at HD and Lowe's aren't any better. If you want to buy a Honda be prepared to pay 4X as much. You just have to run them and put a load on them every few weeks to keep them in running order. That goes for any generator.

Home Depot sells portable air conditioners. They are life savers if you have a generator and the power goes out.

Expect a few more runs to come back and push the track east a bit. Some moderate wind shear has it tracking further east.

My memory is a bit foggy from 2005, but didn't a lot of the BR area suffer power outages from Rita even though it was a SW LA/SE Texas event? I seem to remember losing power after just having it restored from Katrina

Used my whole house generator for 10 days after Katrina. Everyone was screwing with me when I built my house and wired it from the start to accommodate a transfer switch. They weren't screwing with me after the storm.

Buy a couple window units and store them in your attic. They take up a lot less space and work better than those stand up units they sell for the most part.
