let me help y'all scratch another item off the bingo card

TWX said uttered possible Cat 5
Highly unlikely due to its forward speed. To reach that level requires numerous eyewall replacement cycles which take time to accomplish and Laura just won’t be over water long enough to get there. Cat 4 is probably the worst case scenario. Cat 5 is technically possible, but less than 5% chance imo

Staying out here in Iowa. Sending the wife and kids away though.

Sigh, we tried to tell you to go East.
Don’t think you’re in any danger there though.

I think this storm rips through the atmospheric vortex and comes out on the other side of the high pressure ridge to intensify into a rather strong storm in the coming hours. Look for the precipitation shaft to increase along the outer bands of the eye wall. That may occur in the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone by the looks of the Maximum Sustained Surface Wind. Just FYI

What does that mean to laypeople?

Gotta be in the thread to mark it down. If you call bingo, you have to link the posts to prove it.

[#NerdTweet] (1/2) With recon measurements of #Laura's windfield, we know the current wind max is rather broad. As the inner core completes, it may be rather large at first, as depicted now in HWRF (it assimilates plane data). This has important implications: LINK ]
[quote](2/2)
1) A larger eye typically implies a slower rate of intensification until the eye shrinks a bit
2) A larger vortex is more resistant to being tilted and thus more resilient to shear
#Laura's intensification may remain gradual today/tonight before quickening tomorrow.
Levi with a good point here. We mentioned it yesterday afternoon and it seems to be playing out today.
