Yep. I’d rather stay out here for now. Heights shouldn’t be getting anything too bad should these models hold. Sitting in traffic for hours for two separate days would annoy me worse than a day of possible power outage.

Honestly, TD is the best place for any news. This is as up to the second as any considering how many eyes will be on the news and every social media platform on earth.

what area / neighborhood?
Spring area, not sure of the neighborhood. I know they're further West of Woodlands.
If it doesn't shift anymore, I think they're fine. I guess I'm just worried if it keeps jogging West.
Thanks for the input.

That's some pretty impressive flying...

Also they had a few people die in the evacuation from Rita its pretty important people have more time to get out
4.5 million people live in the Houston area. If you gave them 4-5 day’s notice on a bad hurricane I’d bet nearly 100 people would still die from car accidents and stupidity.

Laura is currently tracking on the southern edge of the reliable overnight guidance. That will be a trend to watch today for obvious reasons.

I have very close family in HOU including grandbaby. They just moved there and are clueless. Is it too late for them to evacuate to BR? Should they just hunker down?
They live in an apartment in NW Houston
I'd stay put in NW Houston, unless they have critical things that require power for the baby.

I was in Lafayette off Ramblewood during Rita. Blustery but never lost power. The pool was a bit of a mess from little limbs and leaves.

They should absolutely stay put.

I’m in Alvin and we are getting ready to leave

Any guesses how much more westerly the shift is?

Can confirm. I was there. A few trees down. No power loss.

Thanks for the level headed advice.
(and no, nothing critical for the baby. I have other family close to them, which helps too)

complete melt it takes to start saying the NHC is going to cost lives
A late evacuation in Houston will cost more lives than weather related deaths from Laura
If it looks like a direct hit and they try to evacuate this afternoon its going to be a disaster

Nah just a shift a pinch west but potential is there for more west depending on ridge placement
Posted on 8/25/20 at 7:42 am to rds dc
So does that mean it will continue on it's western course? Explain that to me like i'm 5.

Spring is north Houston, not really NW.
Look, almost every model agrees Laura will be heading essentially due north when it makes landfall. I wouldn't worry much if I'm in Houston proper unless landfall is around Freeport. Galveston Island still puts you on the good side, for example.
They might lose power in Spring, but you're not looking at a Harvey situation, or anything really close to it. Might get 8 inches of rain in the Beaumont area or something, but water won't be a primary threat.
