No track shows it skirting the coast
It damn sure isn’t coming due north up from the gulf. It is close enough that when the center of the storm is due south of Houma the coast and some jnland will be getting battered and it only gets closer on its approach to lake Charles. The forecast track takes it inside 100 miles of a large portion of the LA coastline

I was trying to get people to not cancel work in Baton Rouge today but you can’t reason with people when an extended weekend is on the table. Baton Rouge may not even know Marco is out there. We’ll deal with Hurricane Laura in a few days.

The local people here Houston seem to expect a fairly significant shift once Laura gets in the gulf tomorrow.
Gotta sell those groceries.

How bad did you get it from Rita in Houma? I'd think it would be less than that because Rita was a bigger storm size wise and it came closer to SE LA in the gulf than this will because it went N of Cuba

Got to cancel my trip to Houston
the gf and I were joking about where we could even evacuate to if we wanted to. Houston to BR is possible and anything east would be driving through Marco

I have laymen knowledge of meteorology. Its been more of an interest than anything. What I do know is there's a whole lot of unpredictability, and what these storms ultimately do is unpredictable.
