What happened when we armed armed radical communists in China against the Japanese?
But spare me and everyone else from this sophistry. You’ve been having the vapors about this whole thing since February; the only thing that changes week to week is the object of your unhealthy anxiety.

The only people in this thread who are "pro-war" are the drive-by shitstains that giggle at the thought of Russia slaughtering Ukrainians due to their blind hatred of Biden.

I wonder how many of those fighters were actually part of the Azov battalion? I would suspect the Azov members are in for a tough time but the others might have a chance.

The only correct thing you’ve said in your post.
Amazing how many people want to believe a verifiably false fantasy about America being weak or beholden to some other dipshit country.

This dustup has been a kick in the nuts for the "America is weak" crowd. The reason we are not weak is because of our defense spending.
If America stopped buying Chinese crap just say by 10% it would be Lord of the Flies times in China proper. They are dependent on our money.

I'm sorry, this nation is a total shite show right now, between a border crisis, record inflation, food and baby formula shortages, a supply line crisis, and kids educations going to shite
All valid concerns and I share them. Having a different priority list than that our government chooses to pursue is perfectly defensible and essential to a representative government, but I hope it doesn’t make you agnostic to items not on your list. I personally consider evicting saddam from Kuwait to be one of our nation’s finest moments. Standing up for the sovereignty of Ukraine for me is a similar moment so I support the aide given to Ukraine, other problems notwithstanding.
However, if

is on your priority list I think you’ve been snookered by a media phantasm.

Can the posters with tactical updates post tits with their submissions so the silent majority in this thread can pass over all the other garbage?

A follow up to the Mikhail Khodaryonok commentary on Russian TV:
Newsweek
“This is not the first time that Khodaryonok has been critical of the war. Three weeks before the invasion, he wrote an article in Nezavisimaya Gazeta dismissing Russia's chances of being able to defeat Ukrainian units quickly . . . . Meanwhile, earlier this month, he told Russia-1 that general mobilization of the Russian population would not accomplish much because Russia had outdated weapons that could not compete with NATO-supplied arms.“
Sounds like someone who should be a candidate to replace Putin. Hope he doesn’t take his tea with Polonium.

One of their most modern ships is now serving in their submarine fleet.
The Moskva was an old ship, it was commissioned in 1983, and it had received few updates over the last 39 years.
That it was still in service points to the budgeting priorities in Russia, and the poverty Russia experienced in the 90s.
Of the three services, the navy is the lowest priority. And within the navy, the submarine fleet, which is important because of the nuclear triad, gets the first cut.
The Soviet Union spent their money the same way, but the economic collapse in the 90s, and the ensuing budget cuts, hollowed out the Russian fleet, the Moskva itself spent the decade out of commission, and the Russian government just stopped ordering large surface warfare vessels, spending what money it had on submarines instead.
It was the right decision, they preserved their submarine forces, and the industrial base to design and build them, but it was a trade off.
By the mid 2000s, the Russian surface fleet was much smaller than the one it had inherited after the breakup of the Soviet Union, and it’s ships were getting quite old. Worse for the Russians, they no longer had the mechanical ability to build large warships.
A major component of the Mistral deal with France (light carriers) was the technology exchange and training. The Russians weren’t just buying ships, they were buying the knowledge of how to build them.
The cancellation of the deal was setback for the Russians. It meant they had to rebuild their yards on their own, which was both more expensive, and a longer and harder process.
The Russians are rebuilding their surface fleet, now, three of the Admiral Gorshkov class, a modern frigate, have been completed. And their shipyards are recovering. But they need many more ships than they have, and it will be years before their forces can be considered healthy.

The Moskova underwent a refit from 1990 to 1998, and was recommissioned into the fleet in 2000.
Her sister ship, Marshal Ustinov, came out of refit in 2016, so she is more modern than the Moskova. However, the Ustinov is not deployed in the Black Sea Fleet.
Of the Black Sea fleet, there were 4 (now 3) primary surface combatants. The Moskova and three guided-missile frigates. The three smaller frigates are all newer than the Moskova.
The Moskova was the 3rd most modern large ship (Destroyers/Cruisers/Battle Cruisers) in the Russian navy.

Yeah, because China doesn't really own us right now or anything.
This thread is hilarious to me. The prog warmongers. The supposed "conservatives" who are bedding down with the prog warmongers. The Greek chorus of progs and their "conservative" supporters who claim that if you dare question our government's motives, you're a Putin supporter.
We have WeeWee who says this thread is being infiltrated by Poli Board posters, despite the fact that WeeWee is a prolific Poli Board thread starter.

OMLandshark's appearance here is a nice little surprise too. I love that he's the voice of calm, considering his months-long melt about Afghanistan.
Thank you, OT, for this entertainment.

I'm guessing if you happen to see a women getting raped or someone getting mugged you just shrug your shoulders and keep walking because getting involved would be a bad thing
